what would cause more smoke to come out of one cylinder more than the other? the one is barely smoking at all and the other is just like a normal two stroke. is it in the carbs?

from my experience it the carbs. they are probably out of sync. do you have k&n air filter pods on your bike?

make sure you have the same jets in both, make sure your air screws have the same amount of turns, and sync your carbs, it could be any of those three

but its more likley your out of sync

and to answer you ahead of time. no you can NOT scyn them by looking at it. yes you can get it close but close isnt synced. buy the tool and do it right and be done with it :)

I bought a used set of Paul Turners and one side was smoking more then the other too. I took the silencers apart and one side had packing, the other didnt. I fixed that and it smokes the same now...

-How much the filters are oiled, ones less than the other.

-Jetting isnt the same in both

-Slides are synced

-idles are not synced (airscrews etc..)

If you playin around with them, remmeber the smoke isnt a good way of adjusting your carbs, it takes time for you to notice the smoke. Are both cylidners heating up at the same rate?? ie. one sides not hotter than the other. When your warming up feel both pipes, if ones warming up faster than the other i usually fiddle with it til it starts to warm up at the same rate (i'm not a big fan of carb sync kits, i'm WOT most the time and syncing the carbs so they are EXACT isnt needed in my opinion)-Keep that in mind, and keep us updated!

If you are sure your jets are clean, and they are close to being sync'd (by sound and sight) and the one still smokes a tiny bit more than the other you are probably a victim of the stock carb syndrome.

We went over this a couple years back extensively with a couple of us, and eliminated any possible answer as to why the one side smoked a tiny bit more than the other. The only conclusion we could come to is that the casting of the 2 different carbs with the choke assembly and such was causing one side to run a tiny bit richer than the other side. We bought new carbs and every single one of us, the problem went away.

I'm not saying this is your problem, because their are a ton of factors that could cause it to do it that need to be eliminated first, but it is something to keep in mind.
