Hey Guys, I have a 02 shee that is backfiring on the right cylinder and running like a dog (no power band) it started this afternoon in 6th gear at WOT and now it's doing it in pretty much all the gears, I pulled the plug and it was wet, so I just thought I had fouled the plug, put two new ones in and it's didn't help at all!!! Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

BTW It Revs fine??

If i were you i would tear the top end out of it. it sounds like to me you a siezed piston ring and have no compression. if you run it too much like this you could cause some serious top end problems if you already havent. Most likely it is blown up. and needs to have cylinders bored/honed and new pistons and rings put in it.

I had this problem too. It would pop/backfire out of the right silencer on my 96 shee and it would also idle/rev fine. I never found out what was wrong with it. I just put it up and started to build my 87 banshee from the ground up. I tried so much shit to try and figure it out but it was a no go nothing seemed to make it stop. Let me know if you solve your problem and what it was.

I'd check your reeds out. that can cause fuel to dump in the cylinder and can cause a backfire. It is also cheaper than rebuilding the top end.

Thanks Guys, I tend to agree with SYZ, I just took it off of the trailer, up the street and back to the garage, it would run really bad most of the time, but a few times it would just take off like it was OK, Also something I forgot to mention earlier, the gas has sit in it probably six months or better, I wouldn't think it would be that since it's only doing it on the right side, perhaps the carb is dirty, Could that cause it?? Both times that I pulled the plug it was Black like Burned (or arcing) not wet??

Ok if it is the reeds, how do I tell? and what is the fix? replacement, Thanks for your help this is the first Two stroke (2 Cyl.) Quad for me, so your help is greatly appreciated!!

Backfiring is usually caused by a lean condition. Check for air leaks, or a plugged pilot, and/or main jet. Do you have stock pipes, and silencers, or aftermarket pipes, and silencers? If you have aftermarket pipes, and silencers, it may be time, to repack the silencers. My brother had the same thing happen, and his silencer packing was plugged up, and it wouldn't run for shit, and backfired real bad.

This one is Stock (for now) will it hurt anything to pull the packing out of the stock silencers??

Also it looks like I have a small fuel leak (or seepage) around the rubbers from the carbs to the intakes??

I think tomorrow I will pull the carbs, Clean them Dry out the Rubber and check the reeds (if I find out how) and then put it all back together, also I just realized the stock airlid is on.. (unlike my other one) so hopefully that is not a factor??
