01blckbansh Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 i'm going to install my adj. timimg plate in the morning. when i use the impact , will i have to use something to hold the flywheel so it doesn't move? or just put it in gear and let the impact do it's job?? thanks for any input. Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 I just wear a glove and zip it down. Don't hammer down on it too much because you might have to get it off later on down the road. Quote
KlotzBanshee Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 (edited) To loosen it with an impact you may be able to just hold the flywheel with one hand and gun in the other? Its on there with like 50 some foot pounds of torque if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if you'll be able to hold it or not. They do make a tool (clutch/flywheel holder) like a special pair of vise-grips. I have the Motion Pro set, so thats what I use. Another way is to put your quad in first gear, roll it till it stops, have someone push your rear brake, and hit it with the impact. Use the crank to hold the flywheel. Assuming your bike is in running condition...ie: clutch is in, chain is on, tires are on, and brakes work. Hope that helps  BTW - you will need and flywheel removal tool once you get the nut lose. Installation is opposite of removal...but I recommend using a torque wrench to tighten to factory specs, not an impact. 01blckbansh Posted May 11, 2007 Author Report Posted May 11, 2007 thanks for the help. i do have the flywheel puller. thanks again. Quote
swrbansheeboy Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 you can buzz the nut off with an impact by holding the flywheel with your hand then remove the flywheel with the puller ( i assume it's the correct puller, never use a jawed type puller or anything other then the yamha style puller designed for the job or you'll be buying a new flywheel) when you go to install it make sure the key is lined up and doesnt fall out. use a torque wrench and a flywheel holder tool, if you dont have a holder you can use the old standby and take your clutch cover off and put a penny between the drive gear on the crank and the gear on the clutch basket to bind it up without damaging the gears...
