hello guys and gals. i have a question. hope this is an easy fix.. i just did a complete rebuild on my shee this winter. replaced crank, cyl. pistons, clutch, put new billet impeller in it. now when i get warmed up some, when i shut it off or if it sits and idles it will throw coolant out of the overflow hose down onto the pipes. it didnt do this at all before the build.. wondering what it could be and what i need to do.. any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

It could be doing it because as the coolant warms up, it expands and if you filled it to the very top... it will over flow a little bit to make room.

Is it the first time you started it up since the rebuild?

no i had it runing several times tryng to get it jetted halfway right.. it never done it then. but now it does. it will do this continuously until the res is almost empty then i can take the cap off radiator and the rad be low after a while. a freind said i could have a blown head gasket letting it get pressure in the system.. i wanted some more opions b4 i tear it back down..thanks for an help

If by "res" you mean the plastic reservoir in the back all that really is is an overflow tank. It sounds like your bike is just getting hot and the radiator is expanding what coolant it can't fit in the radiator.

if your radiator level is dropping down you must be too hot. when you replaced the impeller did you make sure everything is in there right? take the impeller cover off and make sure the pin and gear are driving the impeller, not just friction.

I'm jumping in just to watch this thread. I'm having the same prob. I can't see where the leak is but drops onto the inside of my left pipe. It happens when running high revs on low gears. I check my coolant & still full. I'm running Engine Ice in my rad. Thanks.

Oh.. & it only started to happen after i pulled the right case cover off.

Sounds like classic blown head gasket, like 03banshee30 stated.. i had similar problems with a 4 stroke of mine doing that.

is that the only other thing it could be? not a prob to change head gasket. but just wondering if it could be anything else?.. also if head gasket is blown is there any way my ice can get past the pistons and into the bottom end? thanks for all the help guys

maybe if enought got in the cylinder and it is wore some. maybe it could leak by the piston but i doute it. thats all i can think of

well its only had 2 rides on it since everything was redone on the motor..so i would assume that all i would have to do is change the head gasket (hopefully) i'll do that sometime this week then and see if that does anything...thanks for all the help guys

Same with me. A Couple rides later & a bit of overheating. What would cause this head gasket to go?

:thanks:

water pump impeller break a wing and it not gettin enough coolant, improper head torque, bad mateing suface, reusing old gaskets, or a cheap gasket, BAD LUCK, or overheating from lack of cool time or hot lapping (depending on your mods)

Do a leak down test with the radiator cap off. If you get air bubbles in your coolant you have a blown head gasket.

mine i doing this too when your sitting on the bike it leaks on the right pipe.i rolled it a few months ago and it landed on the handle bars .ithink i may have a leak in mine.
