O.K. guys, after a long winter of doing my first rebuild and replacing pretty much everything on the bike I bought, shee's finally ripping! Thanks to all who helped me with advice and parts to get this done. I have a few more questions. When I first took it out, it started and ran great. I broke it in with a 16.1 tank of gas, etc. Next time I went out(with a fresh 24.1 tank), toward the end, in about second or third gear, it started to wind out. I killed the bike and let it sit. I started it again and it did it once more. After that I rode back and put the bike away. The next day I washed it and went through it. I made sure the throttle cable, thumb lever, etc. was routed correctly. Then it was hard to get it started. I figured I must have wet something so I left it in the sun to warm up. It started and ran great once it warmed up. Toward the end, it did the winding out thing again. I killed it and after that it ran fine. Now today it's being a pain to start again. I put in 280 jets, up from 260. I haven't done a plug chop yet but just by looking at the plugs it's pretty rich. What should I be looking for with the winding out thing? Sounds like the carbs, correct?

When you say it started to "wind out" & you had to kill it, what do you mean? Is the throttle sticking? Does it "wind out" on its own? What size are your pilots? How many turns out are your idle/air screws? Where are your metering needle clips? We need more data...

I should only have to play with the main jet and idle screw now. I have the screw one and a half turns out. The needle is on the middle clip. I've posted before about the jetting so it should be very close. It sounds as if the I'm accelerating even as I pull the clutch in. As I said pretty much EVERYTHING is new. Gaskets, cables, thumb throttle assembley. I've checked the routng of the cable. The main jets wouldn't cause this, would they? Mods: FMF fattys, K&N with outerwears, inside snorkel removed but lid on, 13 tooth front sprocket, pro lite pistons (stock bore). Thats about it. It idols with the choke on but you have to tap the gas a little with the choke in.

well i can tell you that the plugs are a little rich because your heavty on the oil IMO 24:1 is pretty heavy

otherwords it could be the slides sticking...just clean the carbs with carb cleaner and try it again because i know it dont take much to stick a slide

I just put them in, so would leaning out the mixture without re cleaning them help, if that's the problem? What mixture would you suggest, without the chance of being to LEAN ?

a 24:1 ratio isnt a "rich" ratio,. its lean,. because LESS gas per volume of air. your substituting gas with oil in a given volume. Also heavy mixtures dont "jet" as easily as lighter ones because its thicker and heavier.

anyways,...check to see if ya got any air leaks. and do a plug chop. first hting you should do after a ballpark tune up before riding is a chop. first you tune your mains,. then needles,. then pilots.

Found my air leak! My winding out was the throttle cable with not enough free play. Anyway, thanks again to all you guys that helped me get this done. THIS THING RIPS!!!!!
