I just built a 4 mill cub and took it out to run it at little Sahara and it would crap out in the lower gears and would run like crap... so u checked everything the pickup gap, and all the little minor things and even changed the CDI and still had the same problem.

I can put a new coil on it and it will run good for 10-12 runs and then it

A. tighten the chain

B. Just ride that Raptor....

LOL...just kidding...Austin.

Also...so everyone knows, the frame was powder coated. He scratched off the powder where the coil mounts.

He has ONLY a CR style pushbutton (2 wire) kill switch for it...two different coils, and he swapped the CDI.

He also stripped the lights out of the harness.

I think it's the stator when it gets hot...or a bad ground.

What 'chall think?

Yea im hoping its just the stator im going to check it this weekend and also im going to change my head i got some 18cc domes im going to throw to her.

Do yourself a favor...change the stator first, and only the stator.

You'll get caught up doing too many things at once...and not be able to back track later...if ya know what I mean!!!

If that solves it...bump up the squeeze!!

you should have popped it off and had it tested while you were up there. my buddy had his stator tested last time, i think its jims sand toys??? you all need to come down and race with us!!! stop playing !!!!

One of the poles on the stator is bad. I'll bet your 10mil engine on it.

Ive had a bad coil and a bad stator. When I had a bad stator It fouled alot of plugs getting warmed up. And it was really hard to start cold. With a bad coil It would only cut out in the lower gears just like your talking about. But seemed fine in the higher gears. Coil related problem.................

We put 2 different coils, 1 being brand new on it and the problem still occurred after the bike was warmed up

Specifically, I think you will find a fractured winding on one of the poles of the stator. :geek:

I checked the stator wires with an ohm meter and they came out to be the striped were at 111.7 and the solids were 17.2

and i did a test on my buddys shee and it came out pretty close to that.

One thing you might look at is oil fouling. If your cases are not sealing, you can be oil coating and fouling those plugs in very short order. It does not take much and if you can put brand new plugs in and run with good results, it will be something to look at. Not saying a weak spark would not cause the same problem. I am sure you are running short plug gaps, aren't you?? .020 is about right.

One other thing, that CDI is getting the finger on this one. Running for several minutes before heating up and failing. that is the right amount of time for a CDI issue. Generally, stators will heat and fail in 1-2minutes. You can them check the stator real quick while hot and generally find a ground loop short. With 10-12 runs before it craps out, I would lean damn hard on that CDI. We have had them run for 15-20 min before they show signs of failure. Just swap and try it. Simple, simple.
