badshee Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 OK, I JUST PUT MY 421 CUB TOGETHER AND STARTED TO BREAK IT IN AND AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE SOOOO POWERFUL, BUT THE MORE I GOT INTO IT THE LESS I WAS IMPRESSED WITH IT.... YEAH I KNOW SOUNDS STUPID!!! BUT ANYWAY I HAVE FRIEND THATS A BUILDER AND HE TOLD ME TO LOWER MY TIMING DOWN TO 6 DEGREES INSTEAD OF 8.. AND WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT IT DIDNT EVEN WANT TO PULL WHEELIES ON A +4 SWINGER HE TOLD ME THAT EITHER I WAS SHREADING MY TIRES OR THAT MY CLUTCHES WERE SLIPPING,, I HAVE NOTICED THAT I NEED NEW FIBERS BUT WOULD THEY BE SLIPPING THAT BAD THAT I WOULDNT BE IMPRESSED WITH THIS MOTOR... EVERYONE I HAVE TALKED TO HAS SAID WONDERFUL THINGS ABOUT THE CUBS SO MAYBE IM JUST LOOKING OVER SOMETHING SMALL.. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU ALL THINK... THANKS Quote
wesw Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 hmm no clue but my cub runs nice and many others. maybe you need to do some more tuning on it. imo. Quote
theshee Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 With no locker you are most likey just slipping the clutch. You may also just be spinning, like most cubs! Get a locker. Quote
BigRed350x Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 There is a high possibility that it might be a combination of both... tire spin and clutch slipping. What is your gearing, what size tires, what kinda terrain are you riding on, and what kinda clutch setup do you have in that bad boy. Whats your compression at? What kinda carbs, what pipes, etc. - Jared Quote
badshee Posted March 26, 2007 Author Report Posted March 26, 2007 (edited) YEAH I DO NEED TO FINE TUNE IT BUT FOR ALL THE MONEY IN THIS THING YOU WOULD THINK I WOULD BE POINTING STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR!!! WOULD IT SPINE THAT BAD ON ASPHALT? BC THATS WHERE I WAS RIDING BIG RED_____ I RIDE ON ASPHALT AND ALL TERRAIN.. AND I HAVE BARNETT CLUTCHES THE WHOLE SET UP AND I HAVE 20 INCHE TIRES IN BACK AND MY GEARING IS 14 UP FRONT AND DONT KNOW FOR THE BACK.. 34 PJS AND CPI PIPES AND MY DOMES ARE 20CC BUT DONT KNOW ON COMPRESSION JUST KNOW IT IS AROUND 190 195. AND WERE SHOULD MY TIMING BE AT? Edited March 26, 2007 by badshee Quote
theshee Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 well fuck on asphalt you are just slipping the clutch. Get a new clutch, and a locker. Quote

Yeah, I kinda doubt you are really spinning THAT much on asphalt. I'd lean more towards either jetting issues or clutch issues. Me personally I would set your timing back down at 0 or just +4 until you figure out what is going on. Having your timing up really high will just complicate other issues if you're having them. - Jared Quote

Unless you notice the transmission oil being black and smelling funny, you clutch probably isn't thr primary culprit and your tires spinning would probably be obvious on pavement if that were the problem. Have you done a leak down test or a compression test on the engine? Quote
badshee Posted March 26, 2007 Author Report Posted March 26, 2007 well thanks fellas was just a little concerned bc of how everyone talks awesome about these motors.. but im sure its the jetting and the clutch bc my fibers dont even have grooves in them like they're supposed to... but ill get my timing back down and tune some more and let yall know... thanks alot.. wesw Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 whats your jetting. if your running 6 springs that are stiff your clutch should be ok. Quote
Animalman294 Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 Ya, with a motor that regularly puts 80-95 horse to the tires all day long, you should be more than impressed. You do have some sort of problems with tuning or some other mechanical problems............. Quote
badshee Posted March 27, 2007 Author Report Posted March 27, 2007 well i have the barnett clutch kit, springs and all, my jetting is in the ballpark of 45 pilot and 150 main, my needle is a C series and its on the middle clip.... and now i just looked into the intake and at my domes and it acts like antifreeze is getting into my cylinders because the oil is real watery and the tops of the pistons arent dry like they are supposed to be... any more help would be really appreciated Quote
bansheeryder_69 Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 I would first drain all my tranny oil to prevent rust on the crank. Then check your head gasket Quote

Then check your head gasket well im runnin a cool head and i jsut talked to a builder and he said it sounds like ive got to much gas going into my cylinders, and my other set did this same exact thing, before my cub set up, and i had a stock head with that one that was worped, so maybe he is right, who knows...
