Before I go tearing up a decent clutch basket and gear, could someone tell me what all I need to do to rebuild the assembly? Here's what I got, my clutch basket has about 1/8th inch rotational play while holding the gear on the back....is this because of the cushions? I don't know what cushions look like or where they go. I'm in uncharted territory for myself here!

Thanks!

I am in the middle of doing the same, but I have a billet clutch basket. Is yours stock? If you need any parts. I highly recommend Jeff at F.A.ST. FOR ALL YOUR PARTS.

Sounds like the cushions are worn out.

I dont know how you would go about replacing them as the

ring gear and STOCK clutch basket are riveted together.

Get yourself an aftermarket, billet clutch basket. Make sure

that it comes with new cushions tho.

Drill the rivets out of the stocker. Replace the cushions and

bolt the new basket on to the ring gear.

ok, that's kinda what i needed to know too....a billet basket bolts to the stock gear? that's not too bad.

i do have a clymer's...just not with me.

thanks guys!

Matt

Wrong Dave Germain...buddy.... :whistling::lol:

To the best of my knowledge, you can't (or can't very easily) re-rivet the gear back onto the stock basket. You might be able to drill and tap it, however...though..

But...a stock basket is soft aluminium...I'm not I'd trust a drill and tap...

I've got a magnum basket from Jeff @ FAST. They're not as fancy as a Hinson, but they sure as hell are no where near the price either. After beating the living bejeezus out of my 4 mil cub last year, that basket still looks brand spanking new, and going in my 10 mil. I think Jeff sells 'em for 159.

Just make sure you loc-tite the gear bolts back onto the new basket, it get real ugly real fast once one of those come loose.

To the origional poster...just get yourself a new aftermarket billet basket and bolt it to your

ring gear.

Ok....fine.

I'm still the original though....LOL.

Just to clue the board in, we're both named Dave Germain.

Different middle names....though....

So...since we both do business with Jeff at FAST, I told Jeff I will now be referred to as the original Dave Germain...

Although, he's been known to call me other things....

It's my buddy's bike...I got all my stuff at his house, his garage. More room than mine, heated....and he's got a good array of machine shop tools and the like. Already had to customize my bearing carrier...so, coming in handy!!!
