Okay so I was riding in Sand on Sunday and the front brakes locked up. I do not use the front brakes very often but somehow they built up pressure and locked up. I had to crack open a Bleeder valve on the clipers to get it to release. It did this three times through out the day, then I decided to call it quits and head home. General troubleshooting found this.

Pressure was being built up in the brake system causing both front brakes to grab. I opened the Master Cylinder and this did not relieve the pressure. I had to open the bleeder valves and brake fluid would come out when I opened the valves.

I flushed the Brake system with new DOT3/DOT4 compliant synthetic brake fluid.

I checked the brake hoses and they all seem fine and I spin the tires and there is no grab. I pumped the front brake and they seemed to not build pressure. Turning the haldlebars back and forth I noticed the brake hoses hit the Tierods. I also noticed that doing it often caused the tires to drag. I found that wiggling the left hose made the brakes start to grab. I spun the right wheel and was able to stop the spin by moving the left brake hose.

I ordered a new set of stainless steel braided hoses hoping that will solve the issue.

So now to my question.. Should the MAster Cylinder relive the pressure when the cap is removed?

did they lock after you hit t he front brake or did it just start locking as you rode?

its possible that the spring and plunger in th master has gone bad and is causing it.. but without looking at the system i couldnt tell you for sure wouldnt be bad to check out...

It locked up when I was riding it. I very rarely use my front brakes at all.

I am willing to bet it has something to do with the master cylinder but was not sure.

I talked to the Yamaha dealer today and they said they don't think it is the Master Cylinder. They say it sounds like there is air in the lines because it seems to heat up and clamp the brakes down. He said brake fluid will not expand but air will. I went ahead and reflushed the system again with fresh brake fluid.

I wonder if someone can do me a favor? Can you jack up the front of your banshee to get the tires off the ground. Spin the front wheel and move your brake line and see if it makes the wheel drag.

Well I don't jump, pop wheelies, and ride in rough terrain, when avoidable. The Banshee has been stiing for a few months. I drove it rather hard but not neat the crap out of it..
