woodro77 Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 how do you know you are too rich on your pilot ? i have 30mm pwk's and had 52 pilot , it ran ok , i didnt need to choke it to start it , even when it was cold, it got a little warmer out now , so i dropped 1 size on the pilot and the main , it seems to run the same , idles a little better now and i have to choke it when she's cold , starts on the first kick . top end feels the same , maybe a little stronger . but i also changed from fmf fattys to toomey t-5's when i rejetted i guess what im asking is what are some signs of being to rich on the pilot jet ? how do you know you got the pilot right ? if i was lean on the main it would break up at wot ? can going down i size on the main put me in danger of going lean ? (seems to run slightly stronger drpping it 1 size ) i know i have to do a plug chop but dont have the space to do it , plan on it this week. Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 well ive had a lot of experience with pwk carbs. ive used 33, 35 and 39 and ive never used any bigger than a 48 pilot on any setup ive had..ive had stock stroke, 4mm and 10mm and never used larger than a 48 and usually settle at a 45. id drop to at least a 48 considering it was cold and you didnt need to choke to start it.. as for your main, you wont really know until you do a WOT plug test. A rich pilot will start great and idle great when cold, but once the shee warms up, you'll notice you'll have to crack the throttle to start it and it won't idle as good when the engine is hot...Your pilot may have a very slight effect on top, but very minimal. Where the temps are rising, I wouldn't worry about it...Like loco said, try a 48 pilot and see how it feels...if it gets even better then try a 45, etc....you won't know until you try....you might have a lot to gain...from what your describing, I'd say you do...You should have to use the choke below 60 degrees out. If you can start the shee below 60 w/o a choke in the first kick, then your too rich. A cold motor needs more fuel than a hot motor...so if the shee likes the pilot cold, then its too rich when the motor is hot.... When you start to get too lean, your shee will start hard even w/ the choke and will hesitate going from idle to 1/4 throttle or full throttle..sometimes and slightly rich pilot will have the same affects as a slightly lean pilot, but the one in the middle just WORKS!!!
