magunit420 Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 I purchased a cdi off ebay for my 95...and the guy is a dumbass and listed it as a 95 and now it arrived today and its deffinetly not the right one...it looks like a new style connecter with 5wires.....so now im screwed out of no returns and i want my bike running now can i splice the wires to fit my 95? all the wires are the same except one the green wire..does anyone no what this does? i need help how to rewire my cdi if possible im so freakin frustrated here Quote
LiftdT4R Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Hmmm, I'm not sure what you mean there. I now from year to year the style of connectors changed, but I haven't heard of the amount or color of wires changing. And yes, you can just splice the wires to the existing ones. I had the same problem with my stator, I just clipped off the connectors and used quick disconnects to attach everything back. Just wrap them up with some electrical tape afterwards. EDIT: I can't remember if the brake lights run through the CDI or not, either way, just clip the wires and don't use them. Here's a link to a wiring diagram http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/elecfaq.html You should have it in the back of Clymer too. I know for a fact the wre colors didn't change over time, so just match 'em up to what you do have. Quote
FireHead Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 The amount of wires should have never changed. All you need to do ia make your way to the local auto parts store and by a male and femal GM Weatherpak connecter, install one on the CDI pigtail and one on the harness. Quote

The extra wire is for the brake lights, which you don't have so just splice the other, grab some quick disconnects for them, makes it easy to remove them later, and leave the extra wire. Quote

Ahha, I learned something new. I have bever had any Banshee stuff new enough to have a brake light. Quote

Are you sure it's solid green? If so, then yes, it definately goes to the stator. I kind of remember the break lights being green with a yellow stripe, are you sure your not missing the stripe on the wire? Quote

LiftdT4R Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 no its got a yellow stripe on it.... so this wire is a brake light? Yep, it's the green/yellow wire which was the brake lights, shouldn't need it, everything will function perfect without it, just tape it up so you don't short anything out. Quote

Ihave hooked up similar cdi unit diffrentbike. Ileft out the green wire and had spark no problem. do you still have TORS set up if so check carb slides, you must check whole harness up and down bikefor shorts. Next time before you buy all sorts of parts find someone with an electrical ohm meter and check resistance values of all questionable parts. This will not tell you if cdi is bad. the best way to do that is to plug it in to a running bike. I have had wires melting to each other in harness under tape and out of site so you must look at every inch of wire. If you dont have TORS make sure it was eliminated properly and none of thosewires are burnt. IF you still have TORS try unplugging black box for TORS unit and see if it sparks. Also check air gap on pick up coil and make sure regular coil is bolted toframe with good grounding during testing Quote

Also check air gap on pick up coil and make sure regular coil is bolted toframe with good grounding during testing like i said i tested the coil the primary test passed but the secondary threw the spark plug wire did not....so i replaced it....this is AFTER my bike quit running and i pulled the cover off and the PICKUP coil was busted all to shit....so i had to replace that i just bought a new stator with pickup....i shook the flywheel and i didnt hear anything so im asuming it is still good. but i didnt just go out and buy parts i had a logical reasons to do so....so after i replaced the coil i still had no spark and since i just moved somewhere where i dont no anyone that rides...i couldnt just try another CDI...so i bought a used one on EBAY and still NO spark....the nearest motorcycle shop/yahma dealer is like 100 miles away i dont go that way too often...i just dont no what else to do..i have the tors removal kit and the kill switch is bypassed and i bypassed the key...now you tell me what else could be wrong ive been dealing with this since chrismas...dont tell me i havnt looked over the wiring harness and everything else thousand of times i guess ill just freakin replace the flywheel and put in a new harness and if that doesnt work i dont no what else could be wrong i just wanna ride is all Quote
