brdmn6 Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 My 97 is spitting a lot of fluid/OIL out of the left pipe. My Dad and my nephew were out riding trails and and dunes this past weekend, and my nephew blew up his 98. I noticed some oil on my case, and then found that the carb, filter, the "inside" faces of both pipes had oil on them. I pulled the seat and fired it up to find that oil was spurting out of the left side where the expansion pipes connect to the silencer pipes [Full DMC Alien exhaust with "single style" silencers. I have not yet pulled the silencer apart to look at the packing, but when I removed both pipes I only found heavy amounts of oil in the left side...I know very little (NOTHING) about two strokes. My Dad said he hadn't had any trouble with it, and I was afraid to ride it until I figured out what was wrong, but it ran fine through the yard when I loaded it into my truck; the compression seems good and it fired up cold on the first kick last night before I took it apart. Any ideas as to what the problem may be and what I can do to fix it, would really be appreciated!! Jeff Quote
black sunshine Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Are you getting spark on that side? Check that out.. Quote
brdmn6 Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 Are you getting spark on that side? Check that out.. Yes. I replaced the coil (I have about 10 hours on the coil) because it was not firing cosistently to that same side, and it has been running great ever since. Thank you for the quick response. Quote
dajogejr Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 What do the plugs look like? Fouled, or clean and dry? Also...does this oil resemble premix (oil and gas) or gear oil (thicker...and a non-gas smell to it) Quote

Fouled, or clean and dry?Also...does this oil resemble premix (oil and gas) or gear oil (thicker...and a non-gas smell to it) I have not pulled the plugs yet...I had 15 min to spare last night so I pulled the plastics and the exhaust, and then separated the the silencer from the in-frame extensions and blew out the left side. The whole garage smelled like fuel (I love that sweet smell) because I fired it up one more time with the plastics off just to make certain I had no other leaks. I looks and feels thin, and is dark to black in color, a lot darker than my gear oil. I will check it out more thoroughly tonight. Thanks!! Quote

I pulled the silencer apart, and the packing was wet and baked solid black. The oil in the pipes smells like gas. Quote
