main_event Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 i have a question for all you guys, what are some of the risks of running 110 race fuel. what sizes domes do you recommend in order to run race fuel. thanks for the help :: Quote
06BaNsHeE Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Depends on Compression,Elevation.Whats your elevation? Quote

Most guys'll do a 50/50 mix somewhere around 150-160 psi, but to each his own. Quote
Handyman Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 160+psi = race gas 150 and less is either a 50/50 mix or regular 91 octane pump gas Quote
Trick2stroke Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I was under the impression that 170+ was race gas territory? Quote
FireHead Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I was under the impression that 170+ was race gas territory? The cylinder pressure at whiich you need to start running race gas is a really grey area. Different oils will increase the octane rating of a fuel more than others while cooling systems may be less efficient than others. Both of these things contribute to an engines propensity to detonate. The reality is that if you are anywhere near 150-170 psi you need to see try running the lowest octane gas you can that will not allow the engine to detonate. This means some experimentation is probably in order. Quote
Trick2stroke Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 I'm getting alittle worried lol I don't have a compression tester at the moment so I don't know my exact compression, but according to Noss' website with my 20cc domes and being almost right at sea level I should be pushing 170 and my timing is advanced +3 or 4 deg. right now. I'm not real sure where to get race or av gas in my area and also don't know how much it's going to cost me. If it turns out I have to run race gas or 50/50 with this set up I might aswell go all out with some 18 or 17 cc domes and bump her up to 200+, get my moneys worth lol. Quote

Mix up a small amount of premium unleaded and oil and start the bike up. If it sounds like it is detonation shut it off and drain it the gas out of the tank. A small amount of detonation that is carefully monitored and corrected in a sensible manner won't hurt anything. Quote
dlnoss Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 I would run at least a mix with 20cc domes and +3/+4 timing at 750'. I also probably would stay with 19cc or larger with a stock crank. Admittedly, I recommend on the conservative side but it gets expensive if you grenade the engine because of detonation or the crank twisting. It can really mess up a good riding trip... Just my opinion for what it's worth. -David Quote

Trick2stroke Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Hmm, I really appreciate the advice. I guess I'll have to just buy some 21cc domes for now untill I can find a place to pick up some higher octane fuel. Thank you guys so much, I'm glad I found out before I potentially fucked something up. :shoothead: Quote
dlnoss Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 if you mixed even a gallon of race or av gas with 4 gallons of premium pump gas, you should be fine. There's gotta be a small airport around there somewhere. Quote
