jmkapala Posted February 24, 2007 Author Report Posted February 24, 2007 is it possible to grease the slides and if so, what type of grease do you use? Quote
yamaha04 Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 (edited) probably just one of your cables are on to much of a bent take the tank off and try and rout them the best possible way and they try the throttle quite a few times Edited February 24, 2007 by yamaha04 Quote
gipperz Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 is it possible to grease the slides and if so, what type of grease do you use? No grease, just a little 2 stroke oil. Quote
FireHead Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 is it possible to grease the slides and if so, what type of grease do you use? Grease, no, but you could oile them with WD40 or carb and choke cleaner. You may need to deburr the inside of the idle scrw holes. The throttle cable is a good thing to check and lube as well. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 if u added a twist throtl make sure your rubber grips arnt hiting the housing or anything and casuing it to drag... Quote
dajogejr Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Yep, gotta make sure that drilled hole isn't burred up. I always sand the slides lightly when I have them out too. There is a hole in top of the carb slides, they have to be left open when you put the cable holder tower back in.... You have to have some slack in the cable, the majority of the slack is taken at the handlebar. The adjusters on top of the carbs are ONLY used to sync the slides...which, Jim, I happen to have the tool for. I'm pretty damn good at getting these set by eyeball, you'd be very surprised how off they can be though.... Glad to hear it's running again! Now we'll just have to work on your jettting... Quote
jmkapala Posted February 24, 2007 Author Report Posted February 24, 2007 well dave, today is the test.....i want to see if she'll start from the dead cold. the whole time i was working on her yesterday, i had the heater on. so we'll see today Quote
jmkapala Posted February 24, 2007 Author Report Posted February 24, 2007 so i kicked her about 20 to 30 times......no freekin go and she's dumping fuel out of the right carb Quote
trueraiderfan Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 (edited) Your float is probably just stuck on your right side carb, no biggie really. SHOULD be abloe to just take that carb appart and clean around the float real good and that should take care of the prolbem. (it does for me most of the time anyway) Edited February 24, 2007 by trueraiderfan Quote
blueshee03 Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 stock carbs? make sure you did'nt get the float bowls switched from one carb to the other. Quote

Why do you sand the slides? I haven't heard of that before. Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Good to hear shee's almost there & glad to help ya. You might have to take the carb appart and look it over. Use carb cleaner & clean it up really good, get in those slides and floats. Any small debris can easily cause this. While out at my last Glamis trip.. I lost a filter & the carb sucked in some sand, caused the carb to get stuck on WOT. The carb cleaner did it's job, I put the new filter on & good to go  Quote
dajogejr Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 Why do you sand the slides? I haven't heard of that before. Because of the shitty design of the stock carbs and slides (why do you think they "TRIED" to make the TORS work) Just smooth the surface a little....that's all. I've had stockers stick...cleaned them up, sanded them a bit (just with a scothbrite) and never had a problem again...and they were clean to begin with. Jim, I'd be recleaning each carb. once you drill and tap them, they have to be immaculate, and I'd bet you got dirt or possible a shaving in the bowl/needle or seat.... Quote

I can see maybe taking a scotch pad to the slides or the bores. Normally, when people say they are sanding something, I am thinking about someone going nuts with 60 grit. Quote
