fox_forma Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 I recently picked up another shee and for some unknown reason the last owner tried to spray it over in black. It looks like shit for the most part. It doesn't seem to be a lot of coats so any ideas on how to get the majority of it off without having to strip down the whole bike? I was thinking a strong solution of SIMPLE GREEN and a power washer but does anyone else have any tips. I mean he sprayed just about everything. Quote
FireHead Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 If you want it done right I think you're screwed anmd are going to have to strip the thing down. If the guy painted over dirt and such then the pressure washer might work. You could also try wiping it down with a rag soaked with paint stripper. Quote
bansheeryder_69 Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 carb cleaner works, hit it with a high pressure washer too Quote
thegroup Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 sand blaster, trust me i know V V V V V "Started my version of the Banshee Build" Quote
fox_forma Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 i'm just trying to stay away from stripping the whole thing down right now, it will prob be stripped down at a semi soon later date but now I kinda just wanted majority of the shit off. Kinda weird that the previous owner did this cause he had another shee that was very nice, clean, etc, then this one which was sprayed over black. Its an 02 and its not even beat up so why he did it I have no idea. Quote
theshee Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Just put a some acetone on a rag and wipe it off. Spray paint has no change against acetone and it will come right off. It would seriously take about 3 minutes to take it all off that way. Quote

Do I have to worry about it messing up any of the rubber.wire protectors for the electrical? Quote
warbags Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 If it looks like shit chances are that it was`nt sanded or anything so a good presure washer should blast it right off, using acetone, paint srtipper or paint thinner will take the factory paint off too.If you do have to strip it,NEVER EVER SANDBLAST,sandblast is for rust.Plastic bead blast or walnut shell blast works best. fox_forma Posted February 23, 2007 Author Report Posted February 23, 2007 i did the first step in removing the paint off the plastics so far and instead of having a crappy ass blue the guy painted them I now have a pretty clean yellow rear and front black. Doesnt look like he sanded the plastics so I doubt he sanded anything else. Havent got to the frame and stuff yet but it look like I can get it off with no problems. Hopefully this weekend I will be able to see whats up with it. Quote

Don`t get me wrong it works [sand blasting] But if you plan to powder coat it afterwards you don`t get the greatest finish unless you sand the crap out of it first. If you beed blast you just have to clean any oil off and spray it. fox_forma Posted February 23, 2007 Author Report Posted February 23, 2007 the thing is as of right now, I'm not pulling the bike apart just yet. Since the previous owner tried to black it out in some areas and it just looks horrible. I'm more concerned with cleaning up certain area so its looks a little better till I have time to pull the whole thing apart and go from there. I think I have it under control though right now. Quote
