Hey all i just tore down my topend to put some new pistons in and the cylinders they are still fine as i just honed them .

My question is....can i just take the old pistons to yamaha and get the exact same size pistons and rings and run them in my cylinders or.....? Im not to sure what i have to do as i dont want to get the wrong size rings and pistons. Just dont want yamaha to say ..."oh you need this done and that done" when really i dont, i was told when i bought it, it was 40 over, but the pistons look stock so i dont know .

Here is some pics of the left piston...just caught it in time YIKES!!!

There are #s inside the pistons if ya want to see if that helps. ?

Your left piston looks like this and all you need is a hone??

I'd like to see that cylinder closely. I'd get it mic'd at a machine shop...I'm thinking a freshen up bore and matched pistons would be better...

The cylinder was in good shape still the guy at the machine shop "looked" at it and said i would be good to go

you may need to get new o-rings for your pipes also and some new pipe springs. mine looked like that when my pipe came off at the header. ran a little lean and burned it up. do you have any scatches in the bore? on the exhaust side? if they don't come out with only a hone, than I would get them rebored. Don't buy factory pistons, their heavier, may not be the same weight and they seem to break to easly when abused( ran hard) if you do just do a rehone, check the pattern on the cylinder walls when you are done. if you have more of a cross-hatch on one side of the cylinder than the other than you bore isn't round and you will need to rebore. my 2 cents
