Karzy5150 Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 OK this is what i have and this is where i need a lot of help because i dont want my quad to end up in a box again. Ok 4mm crank 68mm cubs so a 421 shee with delta 2's light flywheel no timing mods but i have a dyna set at full advance which i think is around 4 degrees my cool head had 19cc domes in it now with a grand rivers intake setup for the carbs also have open air pods. Thats pretty much all my mods that matter. I just got a pair of lectrons set up for alky they are dual power jets. My main question is where should I start how hard will it be to tune and what oil should I use what brands are you guys using. I know i will have to purge my system after every ride and there are a lot os storage issues on this. Also i did look at many of the posts on here on tuning for alky before i asked this question and i read all of reds posts. I am just not used to these carbs or alky and i dont want to mess up because you only get one chance. Thanks for your time. I have always had no problem jetting my carbs when they were pe's so i know about the jets and needles. Its just the lectrons only use the needle and the power jets and im not really used to them so id like some pointers. Quote
dajogejr Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 I can tell you to run a castor based two stroke oil, Maxima 927 or Klotz Benoil. It mixes better with and stays mixed longer with alky. Not a whole lot of help here on Lectron setups....they do run pretty good though. You might want to call Packard Racing, they use Lec's a lot, or search for help on Planet Sand.com. Ton of alky's using Lectrons there.... Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 best help I can give you is, take everything you know about tuning gas and throw it out the window. With gas you are trying to run the bike as lean as possable with out burning it down. with alky you are trying to get as much fuel in the motor as you can without hydrolocking it. you need about twice the amount of alky as you do fuel. Also you can ride the bike say on a weekend trip then purge it right before you put it away. I have done this a couple of times with out porblems. as far as setup with the lectrons I think I would call a couple of builders that use them. they should get ya close. Quote
Karzy5150 Posted February 15, 2007 Author Report Posted February 15, 2007 im kinda surprised there are not a lot of people using them i guess they are just odd balls of a sort, but from what i have read tuning them shouldnt be all that bad. I hope someone out there has a little more help though Quote
FireHead Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Lectrons tend to be more popular in the drag racing side of the sport. I would post your question over on www.planetsand.com and see what they say. Quote

I hope someone out there has a little more help though How they operate and are adjusted are completely different than your standard Mikuni or Keihin carbs. That's not to say they are bad or good... Some people swear by them, and others have no luck tuning them in.... My buddy had a lectron on his old 79 KX125...but, I'm sure they've changed a bit since then...LOL. Quote
