ojcool Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 So, project 250r is coming along. Got the frame completly stripped of paint and after a little sand blasting it will be going to the painter. So it's time to start to tackle the engine/trans. I have a solid set of cases with just the typical damage from chain failure. I'll tig that closed. Two trans with no damage so I will be taking the best of both engines. I'm not replacing the case bearings cause they feel just fine. Mains are being replaced. All seals ect. Jug has to be sleeved. I ported it. I have one crank that is rusted so unusable, the other needs a new flywheel stud, so I'm going to instal that via my handy dandy metal lathe. So heres where the questions start. Since the crank is going to involve money to rebuild if there is any other options for stroke I want to explore them. I wish you could just slap a 500cc quadzilla jug on this engine!!!! Is there anything I can do to give this bike some more power? It's going to be stock bore due to the sleeve so cc via boring are a waste. I can't find a stroker kit for it 1985 bike (case reeds) Is there ANYTHING that can be done via different year cranks ect to get some juice? I picked up a 38mm carb for it. What else? I'm planning on running 19cc head so I'm already committed to race fuel. I guess I could run even more compression but I want it to be a reliable trail bike that wont overheat or break down in 80 degree weather. I don't want to run alcohol just cause of the cost of fuel. Keep in mind the goal is a good reliable trail MX bike. But just the same I don't want it to be the slug everyone keeps telling me it will be. Quote
ojcool Posted March 20, 2007 Author Report Posted March 20, 2007 Frame is finally with my painter. I have spent the last few days powdercoating parts. Should be complete in the next month or so. Quote
Leadfoot350 Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 ask this question over at planetsand.com there are a couple guys that know these lt250s Quote
odaen Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 only 1 LT250 that I thought was worth a shit.. Think this one dyno's at like 70HP with the stock cylinder. It's Cameron's personal bike, although he never rides it anymore. I think for 6k, you could load it up and take it home. Quote
ElDuner Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 An ole project.... Motor had the norn... ported polished... pipe and new piston... Honda 250r plastics.... lol Couldnt stand the look of suzuki plastics.. Quote
dajogejr Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 My first thought to give it power is put it on alky...but, just not feasible for trails. When I had my 85, it was dune ported, AAEN pipe, big 39mm carb, no air box, real short gearing (went from 1 to 5 RIGHT NOW)... Don't take this the wrong way...but, I think you'll get the most power out of that bike if you let a seasoned vet do the porting. It's gonna be a fun bike to ride, and even though it's older than that banshee design, you're going to find it handles night and day better than a shee. I loved mine. It's gonna be quick...just not fast. You could push the limit with some compression (which you have...you could go more) and porting...but, the tranny's on those weren't the strongest...plus, you want it reliable. Hard to have it real fast yet keep it reliable.... LT500 motors had a bunch of problems too. But, dr. q on planet sand seems to have perfected that motors inherent faults....they are getting harder and harder to find at a reasonable price...though. I'd just put it together and ride it. It's gonna be fun...just not a rocket! Quote
