fox_forma Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 I changed out my tires last night and threw some ITP blackwaters on and I can not get the damn thing to set bead on either wheel on the inside part of the rim. Each wheel the bead set on the outside but neither will set on the inside. I have tried the ol rachet strap around the center of the wheel, used many different types of lubricants and it still wont go. Any other ideas on how to get these damn wheels fully on? I guess being a 6ply tire doesnt help much but I never had this much trouble before. Also it says dont go above 15psi for the beads, how accurate is this cause I swear I have had a good amount more in it and they still wont set. Any help is appreciated since its snowing now where i'm at and would like to get a run in tonight hopefully Quote

But I don't want to risk your safety, so use your own judgement. Quote
yamaha04 Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 oh yeah you definatly want more then 15 psi to get them set. they are a thick tire so i wouldnt worry about it blowing up lol i wouldnt put any more in the 50psi though just to be safe. are the beds on and just not fully in place or can you not get it to seal on the rim. if you cant get it to seal on the rim then i would take it to a tire shop they have a thing they fill with air and blow it in your tire with on big bang that take about half a second and it will put the beads on 9times out of 10 no problem.oh yeah i think theres something else you can do with lighter fluid and then lgiht it on fire and it will pop them on but no too sure whats involved in this step. fox_forma Posted February 13, 2007 Author Report Posted February 13, 2007 on each rim the outside bead is fully seated on the rim, but for some reason its the inside ones that wont seat. Gonna try the gas station up the street, maybe they can put more pressure into it quicker. Quote
dajogejr Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Do NOT crank down on that tie down strap, just snug it. You want to expand the tire, NOT crush it. Remove the valve stem core to get more air in quicker, too... I think it took about 35 or 40 PSI to seat my holeshots, and they are 6 ply as well... Quote
fox_forma Posted February 14, 2007 Author Report Posted February 14, 2007 got em on, took 45psi for the one tire and 65psi for the other. WHy in the hell would it even say 15psi max for the bead seat on the side of them? Just stupid, but at least now I know what kind of pressure it can take to seat them. My $40 bead breaker pretty much just paid for itself since the local dealer charges $20 a tire, friggin rip offs Quote
theshee Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Glad you got them on... If you have problems again, pump them up to aobut 65, put brake fluid on the bead and bounce the shit out of them. Ive had some that were really hard to set and that worked... Quote
racer Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 WHy in the hell would it even say 15psi max for the bead seat on the side of them? somethin about liabilities, lawyers, and the bitchy moms of kids who try to seat tires with 175psi compressors and forget to let off until the tire explodes and removes their faces. idiots. dave95.1 Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 I've had to use starting fluid before on stubborn tires off my truck. Get some funny looks from other people in the shop. Quote
GSXKID Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 take wheel off spray starting fluid around bead and inside of tire. Spray a line on the ground going to the tire light with match . works like a charm every time Quote

fox_forma Posted February 15, 2007 Author Report Posted February 15, 2007 I can understand the liabilities and everything but 15psi max for bead set, it just wasnt even close to that number. Quote
