Alright guys any input would be great..... Heres the situation..... just put my banshee back together it was all stock i added a set of fmf fatty pipes and a mild port job.... im running k&n pods as well. I re jetted starting at 260 and was told that was not nearly enough so i have gone from there up to 340. The quad starts on the first or second kick but i have to hold it at half throttle to get it to fire.. From there i attempt to mess with the tors ajuster to up the idle and i get to a point where it will start revving like crazy. If i turn it back it just dies. ..... The thing seems to run half way normal with the choke all the way out. but when i put it in it either wont run or it revs. my guess is im getting too air not enough gas. my clip is at the 4th position and i bumped up the pilot jet to 27.5 but still no luck... i know i do not have any air leaks but im about ready to take it to the yamaha shop bc im dumfounded :shoothead:

First off, remove the TORS.

Second....how do you know you don't have any leaks?

The 60 or so dollars it costs for a new cable, caps and drill/tap/idle screws is well worth it.

See if the carbs are in sync...or opening/closing at the same time.

Completely remove and clean out both carbs, removing ALL brass and using a fine wire (speaker wire works great) to clean all the holes, and compressed air.

Now...for the dumb questions.

Did you put the right slides in the right carbs? The cutaway should face the back in each carb.

Did you connect the choke tube back together on each carb?

Did you put the correct float bowl on the correct carb?

I know they sound dumb...you'd be surprised how many times those three things come into play!!

Even if you think you're sure, double check anyway. The first two would cause symptoms EXACTLY like you are stating....

Thanks for the quick response..... The carb slides are in correct, half moon shape facing rear of bike..... also i did put the tube back in that connects the 2 carbs via choke but i do see some ari flwoing through the tube with the gas, duno if thats normal. I have had the carbs apart like 15 times and cleaned them out with contact cleaner and compressed air. Im sure its a simple problem and maybe im not seeing it.

WHATS YOUR ELEVATION 340 MAINS SOUND A BIT RICH .

elevation is 600ft but i would think if it was rich i wouldnt be having the rev problem with the choke off

that sounds like the 340 is to rich,. but for the bottom,. sounds like its lean. if you choke it and it seems to want to run with no throttle,... that means it needs more fuel to run. clean out your carbs n see if something is clogged. and yes, get rid of your tors,. they are a for shit.

Pipes, pods and porting a 340 main is just fine.

It's a good starting point...

The pilots should be fine as well, however, fatty's like fat pilots. a 30 might be needed.

Have you removed the air screws and cleaned those passages as well?

Yes I have removed the air screws and cleaned that passage on both carbs as well.... its acting like it has a leak but i know the boots are good checked over them several times. Just put brand new head gasket on her and also replaced the gaskets at the base of the jugs torqued em all down to specs.... maybe its sucking air at the top of the TORS CAPS..... yea and i think i will get rid of it .... thanks everyone for helping me out if u can think of anything else please let me know and ill keep you all updated.

i had the same problem make sure when u played with the carbs that teh needle is dropping far enough for fuel to refill the bowl. also check the sator cover for water in there.

i dunked my in a lake and that was one of many problems i had.

i am running a set of 330mains with FMF SST and some other stuff.

also make sure that the intakes do not have any dry rot in the rubber. another problem i discovered.

and i just readjust what the fuel oil mixture is usally 45:1 to 50:1 ams oil

the thing pulls like a raped ape.

Better to run it rich on the break-in incase of problems like this. no oil= fryed $300 :shoothead:

Get a leak down tester. Uneven surfaces you can't see by eye, with or without new gaskets and properly torqued studs will still leak...and can leak bad.
