auji700triple Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Hello All, I am new to this forum But i am NOT new to the 2-stroke Power Engines. I LOVE the Snappy Throttle responce and the Accel the 2stokers have over the 4's.... I Am thinking about getting a Banshee 350 But i am not sure, This is why i am Making this thread. I have some questions about them as in Performance,Reliablity and Gas milage(not to worried about that one) i'd like to find out. Throught out the Years of the Banshee What is the best Year. reason i ask this is because there can be some Recalls yamaha have had problams over the years and had them fixxed. Some of the questions i will list below. 1) How much HorsePower do these Have Stock? 2) What is the best Modifications to these motors?( Not looking for something Overly Expensive ) 3) For me, Pipes are a MUST for 2-stroke applicatioins,Looking for mostly Bottem and mid power Pipes. What kind? Whats the Hp Numbers on Twin Pipes. 4) are the pipes finky to jet in the summer time? 5) Are Reeds/spacers and any Other mod Worth the money? 6) How Long does the engine Live for With and without pipes? 7) How fast are they, a 350CC dosn't seem Fast but heard ALL about them. 8) With pipes do i need Better Cooling as in a headgasket mod Or a bigger Radiatior? 9) What kind of oil, Yamalube? What kinda Octance To run with pipes? 10) With pipes do i need a better Flowing Airbox? 11) the Pros. and Cons. Of a piped 2-stroke Banshee..? These are the most of the things im wondering about these banshees. I know they are Compition Quads so im not expecting the life of a Piped twin to last any more then 2,500km. I Myself Own a 2005 Piped Yamaha SX Viper Mountain. Bender piped and i have been Dialing it in for along time still not where i want it. I have had many burn downs because of different issues so i know what im looking for , for a 2-stroke quad. Its just that i have never owend a quad before. I Have heard alot about the 4-stroke Raptors but 2-strokes are Way better in my eyes. I am looking to get one Very soon actully Hopefully All you Members can help me out with these questions before i purchase ones.. Can't WAIT! Quote

Of a piped 2-stroke Banshee..? all years are the same.. there are 2 differances... one is the j-arm to a-arm frames... the late 80's had j-arms and the rest are a-arms.... the other differance is the plugs for the cdi... theres 3 of them... 87-94 , 95-96, 97- present now for your questions 1. stock is about 35 hp 2. the biggest gains will come out of good porting and pipes.. then there are others that will add small numbers 3. bottom end pipes are a dime a dozen.. most mx style pipes fmf pro curcit dg 4. jetting is related to your temp and alt. your pipes wont make a differance once you start jetting rather then going from say a lowend to a top end pipe then jetting for the differance will matter 5.reeds yes get some Vforce 3 your throttle respones will greatly increas but spacers are of no performance gain they are simply there to clear the clucth arm for bigger carbs 6.this is debateable... yamaha says to rebuild the top end every 20 hours but many will agree this is not nessessary you can get 100 hours on them or you can get a leak and kill your motor in a matter of mins... its all a roll of the dice. 7.some guys on here claim they have hit 80's on a stock 350 but thats obserd. id say 50's top on a bone stock but there is going to be factors involved in it that would bump it up some... 8. your cooling should be fine i have a stroker and am getting many other things here and run a stock radiator.. 9.i run yamalube r2 36:1 10. a better flowing air box is always good... your motor is only going to run at its top performance as it can bring in gas and air and get rid of exhaust... if one is chocking more then the other then your performance will be rendered to the weakest of the two. 11.id say no cons. unless your piped for drag and your trying to race mx... set your bike up for your style riding and youll be good Quote
Banchetta Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Basically the banshee is the baddest 2 stroke quad ever built..... Mods are unlimited. The deeper the pockets, the faster it'll go. Paul turner midrange pipes have the best low end twin pipe out there and goes on from there...there are a lot of choices and you have a lot of research. Reed spacers do nothing, boost bottle does nothing. +4 timing is a must. Don't touch the porting if you want low end. You can get a couple of years before a rering or rebuild w/ a good amount of riding.. Banshee parts are very cheap compared to sled parts. You can rebuild the motor w/ pistons, rings, boring, gaskets for under $250. You can ride all day on 5 gallons of gas or less depending on open areas or woods riding. Reliability doesn't change much from stock to modded..Its all in the maintenance, jetting, and care just like a sled. I'm selling my shee w/ a +4 mil stroker if your interested. 4000.00. Just though I'd throw that in... Quote
auji700triple Posted February 5, 2007 Author Report Posted February 5, 2007 I Am just looking for a Nice, Clean Low Mileage Banshee for around 4,500$ MAX. Perferbaly 2001-2004 Wow, Only 50Kmh?! My buddie Says he gets about 150+Kmh on his 660Raptor on the *Dream-o-meter*. Like i said i have never Drove a Quad before but i can handle pretty much anything i can Throw at myself. You say a banshee hits about 50kmh? that dosn't seem to promising maybe you can Talk a little why Everyone buys them Defintly not for their slow speed. I just pretty much like to Ditch bang like my sled. Top speed Isn't anything just how fast ya get there.(Yea gota think about that one) lol. Maintence shouldn't be a problam, My sled is High maintence. How is their Ride, Whats the Accel, Is it mixxed gas? only 35Hp don't seem too appealing. my sled*viper* got about 165hp so im used to the hard pulling, screaming sound of a 2-stroke. How Often Is Jetting Required. I live in about 10-20C around all summer, My Altitude is about 1000-1600Ft above Sea Level. I live East Coast in Canada, VERY EAST coast. Newfoundland Labrador Why is the Banshee So Popular Even with its Slow Top-speed?? I Have Seen videos On the internet of them and they seem Pretty fast. Here is a Link to what has Made me want one. What Kinda Pipes are those, they have a VERY nice Sound! Quote
Banchetta Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 He was talking about mph not kph...The stock shee does about 72mph and w/ most pipes, they'll do around 85mph. They have 6 speed transmissions, which helps them be the fastest top speed quad out there. Stock, they are only 37hp, a set of pipes will boost them to around 50hp. For 800 us dollars, you can get cub cylinders and have almost 100hp... A 100hp shee will be side by side w/ your sled. Even my 4mil stroker stayed w/ a 900 Cat sled this fall on the hill climbs on dirt. Surprised the hell out of me. Especially when I own a Firecat F7 w/ a D&D900ss kit in it. But the shee only weighs 390lbs wet, if you shave some stock shit off where a sled weighs between 500-600lbs depending on year and model. Quote
auji700triple Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 K that Clears up Some stuff... Thanks. The things i would get for it would be A nice set of Cermic Coated Pipes Along with v-force3 reeds and nerf bars. Maybe a better cooling system for the pipes.... Then it will be mostly Lightweight parts. Hp = heat Is a EGT Nessacary for twin pipes? There isn't really much Weather Changes in the summer time unlike the wintertime here.Thats why is so hard to keep a constant jetting setup. One day it could be -45 next -10 so its kinda hard. Unlike the summer time its usually 10-20 Degress C. I have an Avenger 3 on my viper works real well. Saved me a few times. Best thing i've ever bought for a piped 2-stroke. Is there anything else i might need to know about the Banshee 350. Quote
auji700triple Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 I've Noticed You said " +4 timing is a must. " NOt sure what this means..Explain? I dont know if this has anything to do with it BUT My viper Has a Bad RPM spike with Bender Pipes. A piped SX viper at 8,700 rpms will Lean itself out and burn down if not Avoided. It Retards the timing i think 4degrees and leans out and burns down. Quote
Banchetta Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Unlike sleds, the atv industry is a little different. I've never seen pipes w/ ceramic coating for the shee. You might have to get them ceramic coated somewhere else. As for the +4, I was referring to the timing. Banshee's like the timing advanced to +4 degrees. You can either get a degree key, or you can get an adjustable stator plate which can be adjusted from -10 to +10 degrees. Quote
auji700triple Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 Yeah , Is there aLot of work to Dialing in a Banshee with pipes? I kinda kicked myself in the ass when i did it with my sled. Its just too much hassel to get everything working the way it should be. Like this +4 Degree timing key, Where can i get one and is it hard to install. If its just to much Messing around to do then i dont know if Pipes would be Worth it in the end. After loosing Severl Motors in my sled i kinda tells me just leave things stock, but.....that aint me. LOL. So really all i need is the pipes, Timing Key, gutted Aitbox, Maybe better cooling Radiator and some jetting. Quote

I've dealt w/ them for 15 years w/ no problems...As for jetting, we'll hook you up. The bansheehq is very knowledgeable. Unlike the sledding forums, there is a ton of info on here, no one is stock and the aftermarket is there....Thats the one thing I hate about sleds, there isn't much aftermarket or knowledge...seems like no one wants to touch their sleds. Everyone just buys a sled and runs them stock....boring!!!!!!!! Your in Canada...What do you think about the ADBoivin suspension??? Have they got the bugs worked out yet? How do they compare to the m10 or m12....I have Ohlins in my Firecat, but my fathers m10 in his polaris is still better. So now I'm thinking about getting either the m12 or adboivin. I ride up in Fort Kent all the time by the Canadian border, so you probably have an idea of the trails... Quote
auji700triple Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 Well, Yea you have a Good point. People on the Sled forums Arn't Very Knowledgeable about High Performance sled. Most people just Trail ride in the states as to were here in Canada we have a Shit load of snow. right now we got a storm going and about 6ish ft of snow. its amazing. I just Burned down my viper actully. Bought a complete motor off my dealer and with no warning the oil pump on the motor didn't work and i wasn't told or anything. You know what happens when a 165Hp sled has no oil... KaaaBooom.. Im just getting it back on the go this week actully. But to answer your questions, im really not sure about the suspensions. I am just running a stocker suspension in my 05Viper. Was gonna get some billet wheels but they are $$$. Pipes are just for me nothign else. They give a great amont of power for the triple motors. i think bender claims 30, what a diff! ON the sled forums you need to know who is the masters and who just THINKS they know. They are the ones you need to stay away from. lol Takes time to get to know the people thats all. i'd like to try M10, i heard nothign but good news from there suspensions. i Know where that place is too*fort Kent* that is. Im looking for Ohlins for my shocks, OEM shocks are horrible!!! Whats the shocks in the banshee like? also i think when i get one im going to Re-gear for all bottem end grunt. Id rather somethign rip your arms off doing 130 then somethign that will hit 200 with no accel at all. Looks like im gonna have to get to know everyone here, the name is A.J Quote
