He is not athlete of the year! Hes not even an athlete. Golf is a prep sport, not one to be compared with football, hockey, baseball, even tennis!!!!!

What are you alls thoughts on this?

if cricket is classed as a sport, then im surprised golf isn't... unless thats your opinion.

who got the award?

I agree, golf is not a sport, it's a game. Football, hockey, basketball, tennis are all sports. Stuff like golf, billiards, and bowling are not. The way I look at it is, if you can compete while having a beer and a smoke, it is not a sport.

I see golf as more of a skill than anything......Tiger could very well be an ahtlete, anybody here actually know him ?? :yelrotflmao:

Have ya'll ever played golf? It's hard as hell to master, and to see what he can do is just amazing. I definately think it can be called a sport, just like every other one.

Ya might clasify it as a slow moving sport, but I'm not sure what I would clasify it as either. I do admire the skill of being able to hit a 2" ball into a four inch hole 3-600 yards away with only a few hits and sometimes with only one hit. Plus it adds to the challenge that the damn club is all bent up at the end............ :yelrotflmao:

I will agree with you guys, that golf does require quite a bit of skill, however that DOES NOT make it a sport. If that did make it a sport, then would painting a picture or playing a musical instrument also be considered a sport? They both require alot of skill.

i didnt say it wasnt a sport. im saying that you dont have to athletic to play. which i one reason i think he shouldnt be athlete of the year. seriously, what sport gets canceled for rain, or high winds, that you can pick and choose where you do and dont want to play, and you can decide when you want to play? none that i know of. not like dan marino could have said, "naw ill pass on this game, brett favre is a great quarterback, plus its too fuckin cold in green bay." or what about cal ripken? its obvious he never missed a game. but any golfer can say, im not gonna play the us open, that course is tough!

now it is very skilled, but so is surgery or machining titanium, they arent athletes.

I can see giving him the Male Golfer of the year, but not Male athlete of the year. Golf is hard, and takes time to master, but you dont have to be an "athlete" to do it. Look at John Daly, pretty good golfer, but no athlete. They should have awarded someone like LT or a similiar talent in a athletic type sport.
