Hey Guys, Im a "Newb" on here but Ive been Lurking for long time ;)

 

I have a 97 Banshee with Ported Cylinders,15mm Cool head, Toomey T5's, K&N's, Jetted, 4deg timming...

 

To make a long story Short, I let my little Cuz Borrow it for the week and now its Blown up! :(

I cant blame him for it cause ive abused it way too much :evil:

 

Anyways, I Pulled it apart.

Heres what I found

Upper and lower Cases Broke , Weldable? (I think So)

1 Broken Rod

loose rod on Crank (bearings?)

1 Cylinder Scratched and Broken at the Bottom (Junk?)

Cool head Domes scard up

Shavings everywhere!

 

I havent Split the Cases yet because Im not sure I know what I want To do.

I was happy with the power it made b4 and Im kinda Strapped forcash so i dont want to dump a whole lot of money into this thing just yet.

 

 

What are my options, I think i can weld my cases back together.

As for the Crank its probably junk right? IfI were to get one of those 4mm Stroker kits would I have to change anything else? or machine anything? Also, where can I get new Domes for my cool head, mines kinda chewed up.

Or should I just get a used motor off of ebay or something? :thanks:

well this is going to take me a bit ti type lol...

yes the cases can be rewelded... i belive its called heliarc.... if its not leaking though dont worry about it unless your one of those guys that nutz about apperance.. (i am)

 

your cranks shot sound like dont bother rebuilding for that price you can buy a new one...

 

now your saying the cylineder is broke? you mean the flanges at the bottom of the skirts?

if so then yea its trashed...

 

domes can be salvaged depending how bad they are scard... you can have them recut to a bigger size.. if they are indeed 15cc dome they are too small foryour application anyways...

 

now for the stroker... no you cant just get a stroker crank and drop it in... the stroker will lift the pistons 4mm higher in the cylinders making them hit your head... to compinsate this you get 795 series pistons and that moves the rods 2mm higher... now do the math 4mm minus 2mm is 2mm ...

you still got 2mm left to keep them from hitting.. so you have your domes cut for a stroker to takeup the other 2mm... now your pistons are moving higher your port timings are going to be off so you have to have youe cylinders ported to change the port timings...not to mention all the seals and gaskets your going to need to replace...

 

 

your best bet if you where happy with the way it ran before find someone local or on ebay or where ever that has an old stock crank from a bike that wasnt rode much and went to a stroker... you can get them for like 75 bucks... and replace yours with that one...as far as the jugs go you might beable to keep those depending on hat was broken.

Did you mean a cool head with 15 cc domes??

 

If so are you using race gas??

 

I am just a newbee so I cant tell you your options. But, the above stuck out to me.

 

 

Yea, 15 or 17 cc Domes, Im almost positive its 15cc, I run Torco 100 octane Race Gas with Golden Spectra oil.

Im not Concerned with looks that much, but the Holes ae about Quarter Size so they have to be fixed.

Sorry, Ive never rebuilt a Banshee Engine, but Ive Built a handfull of Race Cars and this stuff is a little different than im used too...

you can get a used crank right out of a banshee for 75 bucks ... rods and everything... just make sure it wasnt used alot......

 

15cc domes are VERY small... most drag banshees run 17cc or 18cc...

 

those size domes you are making your self run higher octane fule when you dont need to... list all your mods and i can give you a better idea what size you should be running and would help you not have to run race gas more then likely...

As for performance mods ,

I have older Toomey t5's, v force reeds, K&N slip ons, jetted, Cool Head, Stage 3 Dune Port Cylinders, 3 deg Timming tooth, rev limit thingy disabled? and Im Sure another couple things I cant think of right now

yea dosent sound like you got your self a monster so to be 100% honest you dont need to run 15cc domes.. yuor not doing anything for performance past 18 or 19s with your setup... you can bump your domes back too a 20 and get away with premium or 50/50 depending on your compression.. and get the same power out of your motor...

 

i hear what your saying bout the smell i get a smile on my face every time i go fillup my cans :)

There is no rev limiter. And I agree on the domes. W/the combination you are running I wouldn't go more than 18 or 19. You can really hammer on the top end performance and that much compression gets to be hard on crank, bearings, rods... Did you ever have the crank welded?

You can get a crank from vitos for 350 bucks. Its definatly the cheapest BRAND NEW crank ive found. www.vitosperformance.com

 

Also I have my old crank out of a 95. The threads are messed up where the flywheel bolts on, but i should hear back from the shop sometime this week. So if its repairable and its all still trued you can have it. just pay for shipping.

 

Also you can probably get your jugs off ebay for a nice cheap price.

 

Or if there is a four wheeler junk yard around you, you could get the jugs from them and probably the cases too. I remember my buddy got a set of jugs and cases from the junk yard for 300 bucks.
