Satsol67 Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 What is the name of the tool that is used to measure cylinders and pistons? I have one but i have no idea where i put it. Ron Quote
dajogejr Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Dial caliper. You need an inside diameter micrometer, too. It looks like a T, spring loaded...and it will snap to (expand) to the width of the cylinder....make sure you take several measurements...from various spots on the cylinders. Quote
Satsol67 Posted November 18, 2006 Author Report Posted November 18, 2006 Thats it micrometer! Thanks man Quote
Shee-Male Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 no thats a snap guage, when the "T" is expanded and re-locked, then you measure it with a micrometer. Our you can use a dial bore guage, but it has to be set up on a micrometer base first to be set for bore dia. then you can measure the runout or taper in the bore. Any automotive machine shop will have one. Quote
JET 99 Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 they make id micrometers that work just like od mics.. you twist the handle till it snugs up in the centerline of bore then read the scribed markings on the handle you just need to make sure your ends are within the range of your stroke technology has improved over time the best reading is with a dial bore and a set ring for your master... other than a machine shop not to many have one laying around  Quote
