I have an older ricky Stator kit using Super Off-roader lights.

Much better than stock, but I'm converting to a DC system to

run an HID.

Trailtech headlights lights w/ double isolattion with 30watt Osram/Sylvania IR Bulbs (50 watt standard Halogen equivilant), is not a bad setup at all (probably 3-4 times better light). But if you want like 20 times the stock headlights, then Trailtech HID's are worth double and even tripple the price of the halogens.

can i run trailtech hd's off of the stock stator.

Yes but it takes some work (floating the ground) and you will also need a Voltage rectifier to convert to DC power, as well as a battery.

Well worth it IMO, even one 30 wat HID can blow away 3 Halogens even if you get the special osram bulbs. There are posts on here about floating the ground if you are interested, it does require removal of the stock stator.
