sgt seth Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 I have an '03 Banshee, only has a Trinity exhaust on it so far. Point is, I cant leave anything alone. Have a Wolverine, wasn't enough. Needed the two stroke power. I have been looking on eBay at the mods they sell on there, brand new 4MM strokers for not a whole lot. No need to bore over, will be an easy mod to do. But thats alot of new torque to add on. What other mods would you recommend? I am currently in B-town Iraq, and wont be home until July, so I have some time to tinker with idea's before I get home and start getting the mods. I am planning on riding trails mainly, but just want to have some fun. I am buying an Outlander when I get home to toy with in the mud and normal trail rides, so the Banshee is more of a project and a crazy thrill after bein here for 17 months. So any help would be great. Thanks -seth Quote

Thanks -seth First off I want to say THANKS for your service...As to your question, Some of the other guy's on this site might be able to give you a better answer but IMO I'd talk to Jeff at FAST Racing about doing some porting instead of the 4 mil crank. Good luck  Quote
nicktoney Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 the mods in my sig compliment those pipes very well... you will love the new bottom end... i am also looking for more power and people say getting cubs or the such (4mm stroker) will make trail riding a bit hard... ive been told to get a mx/trail port done... thats probably gonna happen at the end of the month...... Call Jeff @ FAST Racing, or...check out his site. www.farmandsandtoys.com If you can afford porting and a stroker, you'll be real, real happy.... But, you're gonna need new pistons and a cut head too....a stroker crank (4mil) is a drop in, but...you have to account for that extra stroke by either running a spacer plate and a cut head or 795 series pistons (higher wrist pin height) and a cut head...and porting to match the longer stroke... Either way, Jeffrey will set you straight. --daj... Quote
sgt seth Posted October 20, 2006 Author Report Posted October 20, 2006 Hey thanks for the support everyone. Need all you can get sometimes over here. nicktoney: 2005 shee. oo la la NOSS Head 20cc domes Trinity Stage IV pipes Boysen power reeds K&N clamped inbox no snorkel +4 timing Kenda Knarly XC's. hook. Sounds like a good set up. Is there any machining needed with the heads an domes? What else can be added for bolt ons? Porting is an option. Live in northern Maine when I'm not over here, so winters are good time to tear it down and send off parts. I think that Jeff from FAST could probably explain things a little better. Another question, any good literature on the 'shee? Or even two strokes? First two stroke bike I've owned yet. Kinda like some repair manuals or some tuning guides? Anything like that. Thanks -seth Quote

Thanks -seth the head and domes are direct bolt on... you take the stock head out and follow the directions... the noss head is just a 3 piece head so you can change domes (altering compression)... REALLLLLLY easy... everything i did was bolton and SIMPLE... im getting my flywheel lightned too so it revs faster.... Quote

You should post up an address for us pussies and old people to send you some coffee, dvd's, and magazines to help make life a little more bearable over there. We do that for relatives of co-workers, and it sure seems to help out some. If you head over to everything2stroke.com, they have the user and service manuals for most 2 strokes, the banshee included. I'm a huge advocate of the 4mm's. For most of the people that own banshee's, they are the most cost effective route to go if you are building a motor, and you definitely will get alot of performance out of a 4mm. My dune ported 4mm with stock carbs and pump gas dyno'd at 76HP. To accomodate the longer stroke, you will either need to put in a spacer under the cylinders, or get some domes cut to allow the pistons the extra 2mm of clearance. For your application, I'd strongly recommend not using the spacer plate, because it will raise your transfer port timings too high for a trail port. So, go with someone that can machine the domes to your needs. If you would like an even better explanation, click the link in my sig. He's a top notch guy that will keep your costs down by not selling you shit you don't need. Quote

I'm not looking for a huge gain, since I am just going to be playing with it. Possible I will just run a new head an domes, but strokers are nice and pretty easy to do. I know i am going to run an advanced timing plate, probably a +4 swing arm, not sure what else tho. Thinking of going down one on the front sprocket, just dont know quite which would be best to do internally for the engine. Lots of time to think about it, trying to get everyones opinions which all differ greatly but never hearts to hear it. I just hope everyone knows i'm not setting up to Dune or Drag, I just want to ride it with some extra power. Thanks for the help Quote
dajogejr Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 If you just wanna ride with extra power, save your money. Get the stock crank trued and welded (for reliability) and get the a good aggressive dune port on the cylinders. That would be the most cost effective way to get some ponies. Quote

See, from the sounds a stroker isnt going to be extremely costly. Possibly a grand total. I'm not sure how much an agressive dune porting would cost done by someone who knows their shit. I live in northern Maine, not much for any agressive modder's around here so everything has to be done by myself or mailed out. So thats why I was thinking stroker, but I'd have to see what would need to be done to the heads to see if thats something we can mil oursevles here. I have a total machine/fabrication shop at my disposel so tahts not a problem. I'm just lookin for good playful mods and reliability. -seth Quote
dajogejr Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 Not trying to sound like a smart ass....but, just because you have a machine shop, doesn't mean you can cut a head.... Again, don't take that the wrong way. I have die grinders and an air compressor...but I don't know the first thing about porting a cylinder... The crank itself is about 400 to 500 bucks... Porting needs to be done sooner or later. I'd get porting first, then the crank... Call Jeff he can work with you on timeline, budget and performance needs... Quote

The knowledge comes with the shop tho. My father is a teacher who does small engines two and four stroke, machining and all that. So we can do what needs to be done there. But yeah thanks again. But callin Jeff is out of the question, the time difference and phone availability isn't the best here. If I can email him then that would be best. I hear he's on the boards somewhere.
