Really depends on how and where your going to ride. If your riding in tight trails and mud and crap like that, get a yfz450. If you ride the dunes or fast trails that are wide open then get a shee. I ride alot of trails up north and I get the funniest looks riding my shee from all the tanks out there, but when I get er going........nobody and I mean nobody can touch me. A shee just can't be beat in the fun factor. Plain ass fun to ride. Really is the best bang for you buck and when you mod it...........well you'll just have to buy one and see for yourself.

amen to that!!!!

Give some in-put on intended use. For me it was a combination of reasons.

1) I like 2-strokes.

2) Power,,,,I only ride for play, why not have the most power available.

3) Cost, both up-front, and long-term. I got a used Shee for a price I could afford, now. I plan to keep it for years. Sooner or later, they all have to be re-built. I think the Shee will last as long, or at least close to as long as the new race 4-strokes. Come time for a rebuild, I won't be buying valves, springs, locks, cams, machine work on the head. I only have to buy two pistons and rings. If a shee has to be bored, it's iron sleeve, $30 per cylinder, done here local.

4) Now that I got a Banshee,,,,Holy Krap,,,see #2. I normaly ride 2-stroke bikes, but here is a quad that will hang with the bikes as long as you can hang onto it. (I still ride bikes, wanted a quad to ride with wife and kids)

My Shee only has pipes, filter kit (no lid), and cool head. Haven't been into the motor, but as far as I know, no port-work, no other mods to the engine. Stock carbs.

As far as what the top racers are riding,,,,they will ride what they get paid to ride, which is what the factory most wants to sell. The best rideres are going to win on whatever they ride. They all (quads) have good and bad. You just have to pick what is most important to you.

The money some of the people on this board have spent on their bikes, tells me they could probably afford to ride whatever they wanted. They chose the Shee for a reason. Some of them have both, and still say they won't give-up their Shee. I'm keeping mine. You just have to decide what you want.

I think Red will agree...in the perfect world, you'd have two quads....

(ok, you'd have 30 quads...one for every day of the month...)

But, in all seriousness...

If you plan on trail riding a lot, get the 450R. Despite all the diehards here, They are great machines...especially for the trails. All you need is a pipe, air filter, cam and jetting...and they're a blast, reliable...and you can pull up to the pump and fill it up.

If you wanna drag race, dune...or go real fast for cheap, the shee is the way to go. Yep, you can drag race 'em, dune 'em, etc., but...there's nothing like a built shee for SHEER speed.

Because I've made my shee a drag race/dune style bike, I miss out on a few trips with friends that like to ride 40 + mile trail loops in upper MI and the UP. My Shee is simply NOT a trail bike, period.

Red said it best, too much of the wrong kind of power for trails.

However, end of this year or beginning of next, I'll be in the market for a stock or near stockish 4 stroke so I can have both worlds. A Great trail machine and my dune/drag bike for flat out hauling the mail.

I know, I know...you can MAKE a shee a good trail machine...but you could make Rocky a world class chess player too. It would end up being more hassle, time, trouble and money that what it is worth....not to mention out of the box factory stock, the 450 is leaps and bounds better at trails than a shee.

Shit, I'm even thinking about getting a utility quad, they're pretty fast now, big racks to haul/knock over stuff...AND 4WD with big mud flaps to keep you dry....hmmm....:)

if you need convencing that you should get a banshee over something else than you dont need a banshee. im not going to sit here and stick up for banshee and try to convence you to buy one. if you dont get one thats youre problem, not mine.

i knew i needed a banshee, i got one. is that simple.

i agree with the above I have known I wanted a shee even before I rode one. I rode a utility and my friends had raptors and other 4 strokes. Where I live there are only trails and I went into a dealership and they tried to sell me a z400 a cheaper atv at the time? Told me I would hate that shee you cant ride it in trails, Go figure guess I have more talent then him. I KNEW I wanted a banshee and every day I go ridiing I thank god I stuck with a shee. Everytime I fire it up and take it down the gravel road to warm it up, that first hit of the power band its like being free, smiles everywhere. As for the trails I have now rode every sport quad in the market and wouldn't trade any of them for my shee. I never get caught by anyone and have more fun then you would imagine. I love the fact that it is so stable. I love trails on my shee! I seriously feel that it is a great trail bike. Dont let that be a determinig factor.

I agree, Honda's are gay. Every honda i have ever owned, has spent more time getting fixed. My shee's and yz's never break. I even hit a tree once and didnt even phase the yamy.
