Duner440 Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 It is not uncommon to not have an atv title in many states. I bet if you came to Kansas to buy a used atv from a person, you will more than likely not get one. But, I do like the idea of finding who your friend got the bikes from. That way you can see who owned them before and who knows, you might get the title. Quote
Animalman294 Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 First off I would contact the DMV and run the VIN. If it comes back ok then apply for a lost title, they will back track it and issue a new title if it is clear. If its not at least your friend will know what he has. Switchin' frames seems to be alot of damn work if it doesn't need to be done. Tell ya what PM me the VIN and I'll run it through my dispatch and I can tell you if it is stolen or not.............. Quote
Bubba_wrx Posted September 14, 2006 Author Report Posted September 14, 2006 (edited) Thanks alot guys for all the input. I know I looked up some kind of chart or something and it said that to register it to your name you have to have a title(which I dont really care about that part). Like I said, I could care less if I got the title or not really. But I just dont want to go buying a quad, then end up getting it taken from me or repoed or even worse end up in court or something. I'm not sure if its stolen or not, I just kinda want to make sure. The frame is not P/C'd either. And as far as my friend, I'm sure he was not aware wether it was stolen or not. I may talk to my friend a little more about it and see what he says. I havent really done much talking to him yet, just a simple question if its got a title and he said it didnt have one when he bought it. I'll try to talk to him this evening and see what he's got to say. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again! Edited September 14, 2006 by Bubba_wrx Quote

I never had a title with either one, but I've had them both registered at one time, so I would ass-u-me they were good. Thanks man! Quote
DOTD Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 from your posts, it sounds like you either know its been stolen, or have a strong suspicion. I would ask for the name of the previous owner (the one before your friend) & call them. If you can't get this information from your friend- " IT'S STOLEN!!!" YUP! this guy really seems paranoid, and doesn't sound like he trusts that the bike is not stolen. Tell your buddy if he wants to sell it to you, take it to the cop shop and have the vin ran. If he doesn't like the idea thats a pretty good idea that he knows the real origin of the bike. Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 In Cali atv's are tiltled. Look up the dmv.com to inquire for your state. Do yourself a big favor & make sure it's not stolen. Do this by the book. The dmv has a bill of sale form you & the friend can fill out & sign [that there save's your ass]. Turn it into the dmv to register under your name and that get's you your title. I've done that with cars where the owner didn't have a title. Let's say you leave the situ as is, you can atleast have that bill of sale form with your friends signature indicating he sold it to you. Big Blue Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 Ive paid off 4 bikes now and I havent received a title on any of them, I dont think Arkansas requires title for bikes. Like everyone has stated before check the vin # and have him write a bill of sale. Quote

If you can't get this information from your friend- " IT'S STOLEN!!!" i agree with applpro it sounds to me that you are worried about it. if you buy the bike and sell any of the items on it and its stolen then you would be trafficing in stolen property and that is a more serious crime than poss. of stolen property. Bubba_wrx Posted September 19, 2006 Author Report Posted September 19, 2006 Well, Honestly, Like I said, I dont know if its been stolen or not. My main concern is just not getting into any trouble for not having a title or something saying it belongs to me. I'm gonna get him to do a Bill of Sale if I do decide to get it...thats really my main concern. I know in tennessee they dont require you to register or title your atv as far as I know. I've still gotta talk to him more about it and everything. I'm just waiting til I get my blaster sold and have the money to buy whatever I decide to do. So really its just a waiting game, I figure theres not much point in talking seriously to him until I actually have the cash to get it. I'll keep you guys posted on what I end up doing. Thanks for all the input. Quote
