how do I take my rear shock apart?

I want to take apart my rear shock to clean it up and paint the spring. would somebody please tell me how to take it apart??

I've never taken a Banshee shock apart but I assume its like a MX bike. Thread the preload rings all the way to the top so that there is no load on the spring then take the plate out of the bottom. It should have a groove in it so that it will slide past the shaft. The spring will then fall off.

Are you taking it apart to rebuild or revalve it, or just to clean it up? Does anyone know where I could get a kit to revalve my shock and get a spring for a +6................
