This past weekend I installed a used pro design cool head with new o-ring gaskets. I think I did everything proper but during warm ups & retorquing I developed a small leak evident at front left bolt.(above exhaust) My question is when installing longer head bolts I noticed the two longer bolts than the rest(above exhaust) did not bottom out untill threads disappeared(into cylinders without heads on).The other 8 bolts left the same 2 threads exposed just the same as all the stock head bolts.I was wondering if I should turn out front 2 bolt so 2 threads are exposed so o-rings can squish into threads the o-rings are still in good shape except around the bolts they're smashed and have to be replaced I also noticed o-rings around domes were different color (high temp?) can I use any old o-ring of right size?

Any thoughts would be appeciated!

dont reuse any orings after they have been torqued... i dont really understand your problem but just get a new set of orings, make sure all STUDS are fully torqued.. dont back any of them up two threads, or you will see a real leak lol.... and basicaly start over again..

DRI4 is right, and make absolutely sure that the o-rings are not "on" the threads. Coolant will somehow find it's way up the studs and puddle up on top of your cool head , I've been there before. Also ,(as I've been told) the reason for the weird color of the o-rings on the domes is because they're a "silicone" based rubber for high temp. applications. Hope that helps somewhat.

i would tighten it up more. 22 foot pounds right?? ive torqued to that before and had leaking. then i just went ahead and hand tightened it down some more and it stopped. thats happened on 2 different heads. if tightening isnt the problem you couldve pinched the o ring that goes around that stud. the depth that stud went down is not an issue...

Thank guys I'll pick up a new set (o-rings)by the weekend I'll go up to 22#s I also didn't put any grease on stud o-rings.
