skyline_898 Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 ok, i want to know what kind of filter would be best for me. i ride in dry grass trails and some dirt. i was thinking of K&N pods but i heard those were for the sand. which kind of filter should i get or can i still get the pods, cuz i want to take off the airbox. also, what size jetting do i need my elevation is 600ft Quote

dajogejr Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 Once you remove the airbox...NO air filter is good for water and puddles. Foam doesn't hold up much better...and, it absorbs the water. I guess that's better than passing it right through to the carbs... You're gonna wanna steer 100% clear of water and puddles once you go no airbox. I'm taking into consideration from your sig you only have FMF pipes and are about to remove the air box. We got your elevation, but not temps. I'll assume you ride in 60 to 90 degrees... Here's where you'll end up with Jetting: Mains: 320 to 340 Pilot 27.5 Air screw 1.0 to 2.0 turns out.... Quote

fun_on_the_sand Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 I would recommend never to remove the airbox, you will expose the filters to more dirt, and they will get dirtier sooner and that will afect the airflow, therefore you will have to clean you filters more often. Besides, there is no filter that is %100 eficient, tat means that all filters let some amount of fine dirt go through, if you remove the air box, more dirt will get to your filter and more dirt will get through the filter to the engine. I would only remove the box if I was going to ride on the street. Quote

I would only remove the box if I was going to ride on the street. that redicoulse.. a k&n with outer wear will stop more then enough dirt or anything else for that matter ... yes no filter is 100%, and yes you WILL have to clean pods ALOT more frequently then with a air box but the performance youll gain over the air box is enough to can that thing and go to pods... However...water, you're out of luck... agreed how ever he said he dosent ride in water so he will be ok as far as the jetting it all depends on altitude, mods of bike, heat ... theres alot of factors... checkout the jetting forum and at the top there is 3 posts that are pinned so they never go away one of them explains in details how to get your jetting...
