I know i have asked this before but i kept getting different answers. I race on 200m dirt track.I originally had 20" dominators with 15-41 gearing and was able to take off in 2nd easy! But ever since i put on 22" pro wedge's and the GRR drag pipes i have been having problems (bogging). I was thinking of taking off in first but i thought that it would be better to top the bike out in 6th to acheive the use of all the gear ratio. As when i take off in 1st, i cross the line in 5th.

So should i go back down to 14-41? Or gear it up to like 16-40 for 1st to 5th.

Help is much appreciated

the pro wedges will cause a bog if you don't gear down for them since they are alot taller and hook up much better.we launch in first and still gear down a little for them and because the faster they spin the taller they get .you should be able to hold the gears a little bit longer with them since they are taller.also when you went to the grr's did you jet for them?if your jetting is a little off it could be contributing to the bogging on the launch.i run 500 ft dirt drags all the time with a 1-5 overide and for me i found launching in first works the best.if you gear to launch in second then you may be geared to low for the second half of the track.200m is a little more than 500ft is'nt it?

Yeh 200m is slightly longer. The problem i had was my piston broke (wiseco) and so i bought 2 more (prox racing) and i noticed these had smaller windows which reduced the amount of fuel, so im not sure what to do now. And what would happen if i geared the bike for 1-4? Would i be loosing power?

first off we're not to fond of pro x pistons, they tend to be heavier and a bit harsh on the cylinder walls compared to wiseco's.all we use are wiseco pro lites.if it were me with the distance your running i would gear it so it launches good in 1st but not so low that it spins to much and i would use all the gears if i needed to.i would'nt worry about only using 1-4 or 2-5 or what ever.i think your gonna find that running the pro wedges you'll have to launch in 1st and use as many gears as you need to.it seems to me your trying to use the least amount of gears you can which is all right but sometimes it takes more gears than you want to use.its tough to only use a couple gears once you get over 300ft. remember with the pro wedges when you get them turning with the way they swell up it will be like running higher gearing.

Yeh i wanted to order wiseco's but nobody could find me any in 68mm size  I guess i'll just have to try a day with it geared high for 1-4 and then gear lower for 2-6. Trial and error.

Thanks for all your help!

14-43 i can go 300 ft and be in 4th

400 ft you could be 5th ish.

around here we race 300ft drags in sand, got 22in 4snows....changed my front sprocket to a 13 and it just rips....takes off in 2nd and hard, i lose about a bike length when i take off in first....change ur front to a 13 to me its a little easier and less time consuming
