2006 Shee w/ T5's help

Recommended Posts

Put T-5s on my 2006 shee. Jetted to exactly what Tommey says on install kit. 280 mains, stock pilots, air screw 1.5 turns out. Has 2-1 Unifilter with outwear. No other mods done to bike. I am at 2550 ft above sea level with temps 80-110. Mixing Yamalube at 32:1 with premium gas

Heres problems,

Install brand new plugs with gap at .028. Bike hauls ass for about 30 to 45 minutes. Then starts to Loose power from 0 to 1/4 throttle. When you hit the gas it bogs until about 1/4 throttle then screams. Pull plugs and they are brown with some wet fuel sometimes but not always. Put in new plugs, hauls ass again for about 30 -45 minutes. Doesnt matter if trail riding or drag racing. Feels like its fowling plugs. Did search on forums and lot of people talking about running 300+ mains. Toomey says 280's good for 0 to 2500 feet. Any advice? Do I need to go up in mains even though i run good WOT.

Any body with same mods and setup running different jetting?

What are you running at this elevation and setup?

Not a big problem but I go through plugs like crazy!

Last dumbass question - which way do you turn airscrews to lean mixture?

do you know if the bike is to lean or to rich if its to lean it will run like shit and get hot are the plugs brown like a choclate color ......if the plugs are getting fouled out then i would say you are to rich.i don't care what any pipe maker says they will not get you right on with the jetting they might get you close but you still will have to play with it...i maybe worng but if its fouling plugs you might want to lean out the needle maybe move the clip down one notch this will raise the needle allowing more air to get in maybe that will take care if you are fouling plugs.....i maybe wrong try it and see if it runs better its going to be trial and error....or maybe go down in the main size.......good luck

when i installed paul turner mids on my bike duncan racing and everybody on here said to go with 280-290 mains thats all i should need but i had to go up to 320's to get the thing to run right........good luck

If you move the clip down one, effectively raising the needle you are not allowing more AIR, you are allowing more FUEL. So if you have a rich condition in the midrange, you will be worsening this condition.

You've actually started to diagnose the problem yourself. You mention that your bog (whether it is lean or rich) is at 0 - 1/4 throttle. This is typically consider the pilot jet range, starting into the midrange (needle). Although I am at a slightly lower elevation 2000', I run my air screws at .5 turns out. Air screw turns are referenced from fully seated, all the way to the right if you were wondering. My guess is that you are slightly lean on the pilot jet, but likely fixable by adjusting the air screws in. Warm the bike, and slowly adjust both carb air screws in until you find the optimal throttle response.

Did you install the Toomey (Dynojet) needles when you switched over? If so, I would try around the 3rd clip from the top (of a total 6 on the Dynojet needle). And last for now, if you installed the 2:1 UNI system you will need a bigger main than the 280's Toomey supplies. As great a pipes as they are, you cannot run the same main jets with a modded airbox as with no airbox. I would try around a 310 with your elevation and air temps. Wow that got long... good luck!
