watkins Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 Putting my motor back together and hit a stumbling block. My clymers says to replace the E-Clips on the shift fork shafts.... the e-clips I pulled off are in good shape but I dont want to risk a tranny for being cheap. The dealer says those have to be special ordered and will take a week to come in, do you know of anywhere else to buy these or do they have to be OEM? Same thing for the circlip on the idler gear. While I am at it am I missing any other little clips that need to be replaced (beside the piston clips)? dont want to get delayed again over something so small? Quote

Just reuse the e-clips, I've never had a problem and I've prob been into 30 motors and never replaced them Quote
Yaxy Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 Agree, but while apart you might as well replace them. A week sounds kind of long. Typically yamaha takes 3 to 4 days max, So if you order on Monday you should see parts on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. Call some of the Yamaha warehouses that are in the magazines. Most likely they have them in stock. To save some money, have them send them in an envelope with a 39c stamp. If they send via UPS your $3 parts are going to cost you $15.00 after shipping. BigRed350x Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 Make sure you get the OEM replacement washer and c-clip for the idler gear. I messed with auto parts store ones and some from the local hardware store and they would get eaten up in a couple rides and would trash your gears. Spend the time and extra money and opt for new OEM parts whenever you can, avoid reusing anything you can get new for cheap. Easy insurance, especially since you have it tore down. Take the extra time and just wait for parts to get shipped in, its well worth the wait and a few dollars in the long run. Quote

Yeah I ended up just ordering it and I will just wait, too much time and money at stake to half step it. Quote
