cdwood37 Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 (edited) I am certain that my clutch is toast casue i already took it apart. What should i go with, a lockup or a clutch from Jeff at FAST what are the pros and cons of a lockup versus a clutch from JEFF. And how exactly does a lockup work? Rebel3190 Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Ive got jeffs setup and i really like it. Quote
race-a-holic Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 I bought both from Jeff. It's the best I've tried so far. The clutchs he sells can handle quite a bit of horsepower just by themselves. I prefer using both. The lock up allows you to use light weight springs with the clutchs. It's also a little insurance against the clutchs slipping. With the lock up,you'll need a modified side cover to clear it.It has weights on the end of it that applies pressure to the clutchs to keep them from slipping. After using both, you'll hate having to go back to a regular clutch setup with heavy duty springs. They're way too stiff.Just my 2 cents. cdwood37 Posted June 22, 2006 Author Report Posted June 22, 2006 I am really confused on how the lockup works, how does it make the clutch so strong? Quote
dawarriorman Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 (edited) http://www.directdrivecnc.net/images/Picture_0110.JPG See the arms with the screws on them, look at the lobes (cam shaped end opposite the screw). The further those arms swing out (they are attached in the middle), the harder those lobes push on the pressure plate behind them. Centrifugal force causes them to swing out. Higher rpm = greater clamping force. That make any sense? Edited June 22, 2006 by dawarriorman Quote
cdwood37 Posted June 22, 2006 Author Report Posted June 22, 2006 i fully understand now, thank you. Quote
blueshee03 Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 i fully understand now, thank you. when running a lockup you can run the cheapest clutches out there and i doubt whether they will slip.the lock up and cover is gonna set you back at least 350.00 .when and if you install a clutch lockup also install a clutch bearing kit to prevent the clutch adjuster ,ball and pushrod from welding themselves together and possibly welding the rod to the inside of the tranny shaft.your looking at probally at least 40.00 for the bearing kit but well worth it.even if you don't install a clutch lockup and running a stock motor the bearing kit is great to have.
