Handyman Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 (edited) Before I get in to my question I did a search and found all the topics discussing chains so for some of you who will want to say "do a search....." I already did and didn't find an aswer to my question. Here my is my question. When I cleaned my chain on my shee I pulled off the master link and an oring fell off. i didn't think anything of it until I went to put it back on and found it had 2 broken orings at the master link. Do I need to buy an new chain or not? The chain and sprocket wear look pretty good. I don't see any significant wear on anything in the drive components. If a new chain is needed what do I get? I mainly ride the local MX track and will be doing some sand riding once I get my other quad up and running. I did the search and read all the topics and read what everyone's opinions and personal thoughts were on all the chains out there but nothing really on the types of riding people do. Don't get me wrong everyone had good points to think about when going to buy a chain. Where I live it is dry and not at all humid(no moisture in the air, just in case people didn't know what humid meant). The track is bone dry, no track watering system. Do I really need a o/x-ring chain or will a non oring chain work. The only chains I have dealt with or non oring chains for my dirtbike and it hasn't given me any problems. Also what type of chain lube is the best non tacky lube to use. I have some stuff that is like glue to dirt. I sprayed in on and rode the bike 3 weeks later and I had dirt caked on the chain, yeah I was a bit pissed when I tried to clean the crap off and it was like cement. Thanks in advance. Bansh88 Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Are you sayinmg that the rubber Oring istelf is boken? Like ripped? Or did it just come off the piece of chain? Sorry if it sounds like a stupid answer but your long paragraph was all over the place. If you have broken Orings, it's quite possible there are more on the chain. Replace it!!! If the Orings just came off, that isn't a problem. Just put them back in place when you put your chain back together. If you get a chain, get an Oring/Xring chain and spray a little WD40 on it once in a while. Get whatever fits into your budget Quote
bansheeseat$$ Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 (edited) I personally don't use o-ring chains.Just make sure you get a chain with a high tensile strength,I use Primary drive NON o-ring chains with 8510 tensile strength on both my shees and have no problem at all.+ they're cheep from rocky mountain.I olso use wd/40 on mine. Do I need to change the srockets as well just like you do on a dirtbike or will they be ok?? Quote
Bansh88 Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Its good to get new sprockets at the same time. Especially the front. Sprockets are cheap compared to a chain so go ahead if you can afford it. At least the front sprocket. Quote
