sparkdic Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Ok so I took my shee out at my buddy's friday nite and we were just making laps around one of the fields all nite and draggin on the straights ( It's fun beating a build 450r with a mild banshee  ). But on the last lap I was planning to make I went into the last turn and the bike wouldn't downshift at all, but it would upshift. So I just rode back to the garage (startin form a dead stop in 4th gear sucks). I tried wiggling the shift shaft around hoping it just came of the star, basically looking for any thing dumb to not have to tear the bike apart. Now my buddy used to run banshee's a few years backa nd him and his old man said sounds like I bent the shift shaft, Sound right to anyone? I just really want to have a good idea of what I'm gettin into here before I tear the bike down... Thanks ahead of time... Quote
WinNuke2003 Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 The shifting shaft that goes all the way from the left side of the motor to the right side (form sitting on the bike) probably needs to be adjusted. That shaft has a "Y" type deal on clutch side. When you push down it rotates the shift star clock-wise and vice versa. The shift star sits in the middle of that Y. There has to be an even amount of space in between the shift shaft and the pegs on the shift star at a resting point. There is a dowel that you can rotate that is off center to adjust it and a locking nut to keep it there. You have to remove the whole clutch to do it. Your shifting shaft is probably sitting too low at a resting point. It could also be bent forks. Tear it down and make the call. Hope that helps. :thumb: Quote
racer Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 i would say you broke the peg, mentioned above, that holds the shaft in position. think of it as a spring loaded ratchet shifter. with that peg broken there is nothing to pull the shaft back into place to make another downshift. you can upshift because gravity takes care of that............. sparkdic Posted June 12, 2006 Author Report Posted June 12, 2006 Hey thanks alot guys. if that peg is broke, is it a replacable peice? Cus I have a machine/lathe and could just make a new one. I'm happy to hear that this isn't going to be a very expensive repair, since i'm on the broke side at the moment and really don't want to ahev to leave her sit for awhile... Again thanks alot Quote
racer Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 ya, its an easily replacable piece too. gotta remove the clutch assembly, but thats no big deal. you could turn/thread your own, but i think it would be worth the few dollars tp just order one. my buddy tried to make one out of a bolt and it snapped with a quickness, so i think they may be tempered or something also.
