I have a riding lawn mower Kohler with a Hydro Drive and I bought this to use as a new project to race around on. The guy told me this thing can do about 45mph just with the adjustments of 2 levers on the hydro drive, i took it apart and see nothing. How can i make this mower get up and go? Is there a govenor or whats the deal??

if you mean race on, then you better check the track rules first. The track round here has very strick rules about what you can and can't mod.

If you need real speed drop a shee motor in it

Im not going to really race it, I dont even think they have that okie stuff over here on the West Coast, i just wanted something to zip around the house with. Plus it has the Hydro rear end so if i did an engine swap im also going to have to do a rear end swap and put like a live shaft with a sprocket.

I just want to know if I can make the stock mower faster by doing something to the tranny? i was told thats all i have to do.

I have never understood lawnmower racing. I just dont get it. I mean a riding lawn mower is just a really slow, lame hard riding quad aint it?

Why dont you just race a Honda :yelrotflmao:

Sorry, i couldnt help myself.

thats me on an old junky mower i got for free and decided to mod a bit.

change the pulleys between the engine and the trans. then you can do 20-30-40mph like me. just have to get a bigger pulley for the engine, and a smaller one for the trans. probably have to redo the idlers too but it isnt much work.

Its an older Kohler 42'' 15.5hp, not sure on model number off the top of my head.

Umm it does have a pulley right on the top of the rear end but when i got the mower the guy said there should be 2 levers or something i adjust the pressure points and thats all there is to, to make it go faster. But i do have 1 pully on top its about 5'' wide.

the guy i know near me that races them, said he just switches the pulleys around, but im not real sure but his riders go like 55-60mph no problem . i think they are too top heavy for that type of speed .i almost tip mine over going 2mph, but to each his own but his name is fish hook that should tell you something :baseball_original:

a 450 motor would be a nice touch. it a little hard to kick over a mower considering where youd have to locate the engine.

find the butterfly on the carb and make that shit open all the way lol .... convert over to alky . rig str8 pipes on it . and you might be up around the 50mph range LOL * without in house porting * lol

i have an 18hp v twin that im going to mess with. but my dad might not like it he'll be doing 50mph mowing the lawn lol

Well they do. I'm from the West Coast also

here's one in Cali http://www.wgasmotorsports.com/schedule.htm

and one in Oregon http://lawnmower.meetup.com/cities/us/or/grants_pass/

I could go on with every West Coast state too. It is a sport and fun to watch. I don't race it but have friends that do. I'm in the process of building a bar stool racer.

I'll race anything that has wheels :baseball_w00t:

LOL!! Nice one csrmel, does that thing drop like a ton of bricks when the front end comes down?

it did at first. the front axle finally broke in half from comming down hard. i had to mig weld it back up with rebar for extra support. then i figured out if i blip the throttle when the fronts comming down it makes the touchdown nice and easy. no more broken front ends for me.
