m3snowboarder143 Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 I just picked up a 97 banshee 2 days ago for 2350, very good deal if you ask me. Well anyways he even told me it is running a little lean and he isn't the best carb man. Well it has fmf fatty gold pipes, k&n filter with no airbox. 15tt sprocket and as far as I know thats it. He also said it is single carb, which I thought they were dual. He said thats how it came. Well he ran 50:1 i think belray possibly. So it does good until I think it was 4 or 5 gear. Seems like once the I get there in the low end it no quite bogs, but loses all power, then finally it will kick in after a bit. So will switching to 32:1 yamaha lube help? I'm not sure what jet sizes he has, he just said fmf cali is hard to get ahold of. So I main question will the 32:1 help it. If not what shoudl I do. I haven't checked idle speed or anything yet, however every now an then with 1 gear stopped and clutch held in it will die or just sounds super quite. Quote
banshdog Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 (edited) I would imagine that he was refering to the air/fuel mixture not the oil/fuel mixture. Putting more oil in your gas will not correct jetting problems, you need to look into the jets that are in the carb(s), if you are suspecting a lean condition you will need to go up on the size of your main jet or possibly adjust your needle position. m3snowboarder143 Posted May 24, 2006 Author Report Posted May 24, 2006 I figured that was the case, but will going to 32:1 anyways help? Or should I stick with 50:1. Quote
KlotzBanshee Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 most people run 32:1, some run 40:1 - depending on the oil your using 50:1 sounds too lean of an oil:fuel mixture to me It sounds like you should def go through the carb(s) and check the jetting too. Quote
banshdog Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 (edited) Like I said before, changing your oil/fuel mixture will not correct the issues that you are facing when riding. Adding more oil to your fuel probably wont hurt anything. Personally I run nearer to 40:1, I use Bel-Ray MC-1 and the suggested ratio on the container is 50:1 . Check the suggested ratio on the oil that you are using. Edited May 24, 2006 by banshdog Quote
