I busted a piston skirt 2 weeks ago and I've almost got the cases open but I haven't had time to finish. Everything looks good so far except for some debris from the skirt on one side of the crankcase but it's still not bad. What I need to know is what to do with the crank to make sure it's ok and if it should be beefed up since I'm boring and going for a port job. The bore is stock and the motor has maybe 30 hours (2004 model), so this is a first for me but I don't want to shell out $400 plus on a new crank since I need pistons, boring, new head, porting, etc. What am I looking at spending?

just take the crank out and take it to a quad race shop and they can look it over and tell u if its good or not. my buddy's 4 mil did the same and he got luck. all ill have to do is put new pistons, rings, and hone his cyls.

For sure take it to a shop and have them check it out. By the looks of it it looks like any metal was big pieces. I would tear it all the way down and check everything over. While you have it apart mow is a good time to build up the engine if money prohibits. Good luck with your build and keep us updated.
