differentstrokes Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 I busted a piston skirt 2 weeks ago and I've almost got the cases open but I haven't had time to finish. Everything looks good so far except for some debris from the skirt on one side of the crankcase but it's still not bad. What I need to know is what to do with the crank to make sure it's ok and if it should be beefed up since I'm boring and going for a port job. The bore is stock and the motor has maybe 30 hours (2004 model), so this is a first for me but I don't want to shell out $400 plus on a new crank since I need pistons, boring, new head, porting, etc. What am I looking at spending? thegroup Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 just take the crank out and take it to a quad race shop and they can look it over and tell u if its good or not. my buddy's 4 mil did the same and he got luck. all ill have to do is put new pistons, rings, and hone his cyls. Quote
Animalman294 Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Just take it to a shop and they will true it for you if it is messed up, and since they have it out you may as well have them weld it for you too...... Quote
DIRTMAN350 Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 For sure take it to a shop and have them check it out. By the looks of it it looks like any metal was big pieces. I would tear it all the way down and check everything over. While you have it apart mow is a good time to build up the engine if money prohibits. Good luck with your build and keep us updated. Quote
