jeenyus Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 my banshee runs great but i have minor problems... the bike does not even need choke to start. when the engine is still cold it runs great... its stays at a stable RPM but once its warmed up... it dies if i do not rev it up. when im rolling down the street, i pull the clutch and let off the gas, IT DIES by itself. and when its warm its hard to start it. Ive read the jetting FAQ, but i dont understand some facts... its says if the bugg is in the lower RPMs, you should **** with the pilot jet and air screw... but with a idle kit, are the air screws important? if i have to change my pilot, what sould i go for? a bigger or a smaller one? Thanks...! Quote
BenBB Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 YES the airscrews are still important, you don't eliminate them with the TORS elimination kit (they are the little brass screws just rear of the fuel line intake on the carbs, kinda upper left of each carb). The airscrews control the air/fuel mixture from idle up, but have the most impact on idle to about 1/8 throttle. IF you installed the whole TORS elimination kit, you put idle screws in both carbs; the ones you drilled & tapped for. These only control idle speed, not the mixture. There's a difference. Ok so if all you did was install the kit and no other mods, and the jetting was relatively good before ya did it, your airscrews are likely ok, you just need to make sure there's no air leaks from takin' off the carbs (just in case), and then set the idle speed with the idle screws. Note that sometimes you'll need to file off about 1/8"-1/4" of material from the carb body where the nut on the idle screw bottoms, if you don't file it down past flat the screw won't go in far enough to raise the slide (the tip of the idle screw hits a ramp on the slide and raises it to simulate more throttle, thereby increasing the idle speed). From your post it does sound like your airscrews are a little rich, but I would start by setting the idle speed first so it won't die when you let off the throttle, then adjust the airscrews a half turn at a time until it idles clean and revs smooth right off idle. Good luck. Quote
jeenyus Posted April 25, 2006 Author Report Posted April 25, 2006 alright, i have a few more questions. when i start the bike, its runs at a stable RPM, we adjusted our idle screws without the choke pulled and when the engine was cold. as i said, its stable till the bike gets a little warm. once its enought warm to ride it, it wants to die on me if I do not give gas, Should I adjust the idle screws when the bike is ready to ride (warm enought) ?? my air screws are turned all the way in, with 1 1/2 counterclockwise. batoutofshell Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 it has to be hot and ready to ride when setting the idle screws. then when its cold the choke works Quote
jeenyus Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Posted April 26, 2006 (edited) ok! im gonna try next time to adjust them when the bike is warm. dont wanna start another thread so heres another question for you guys! what gearing should i run? I plan on ordering 9inch bajas with a 19inch MXR4 (as well for the fronts 19inch MXR4) do you think black bajas with sandblasted reinforcement rings would look good? also, I wanna thank you guys for the helpful posts! batoutofshell Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 I think the rims will look cool but you want abigger tire in the front at least 1 inch http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/banshee.htm pick your tires than your gearing Quote
jeenyus Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Posted April 26, 2006 seriously, you guys are the SH*T !! my yamaha dealer ship couldn"t even answer me those questions. they were like: yup try to jet a little bit leaner and the problem will go away. I LOVE YOU GUYS! THANKS!! Quote
