Whitey Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 Is the modified flywheel from Ricky Stator worth getting? I'm not talking about it being lightened but the modified magnets. My bike requires alot of power since I'm running alot of electrical stuff but does the flywheel make that much of a difference or should I just get the 200W stator? thanks. Quote

sandman121383 Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 ya since it'll rev a little faster u'll have a little more steady output at a low RPM but if u have the money the 200watt stator is the best wat to go. more overall wattage to use. i'm sure some of the more electrically inclined guys might chime in. Whitey Posted April 22, 2006 Author Report Posted April 22, 2006 Remember I'm also going to be running a battery on the bike. So my main concern is running out of charge. Quote
bodge Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 I looked in to this, i spoke to RS The RS flywheel is made and tested and gives the best output from the Rs stator. You would get a better output from your stock stator with an RS flywheel due to the stronger magnets in it but no where near what you will get if you fit both the RS 200w stator and flywheel. I have both sat waiting to be fitted along with a battery and some hid lights. Quote
Whitey Posted April 24, 2006 Author Report Posted April 24, 2006 Don't worry about runnig out of charge, I just did a mod on a stock stator and it charges and keeps the battery charged just fine. This particular bike uses HID lights as well. Don't be fooled by false info, you can run everything with a stock stator as long as you modify it correctly, the only thing you need to worry about is if you run a small battery and Halogen lights, then you will need to watch how much load you hook to the battery. If you run HID's then you can get away with a stock stator. Some will say it won't work but from personal experience and a full week in Waynoka the lights worked perfect and the battery never got below 11.5 volts, and just barely off idle the stator would charge at a strong 14.5 volts. Check out this site for some great info on stator mods and lighting upgrades for the Banshee. http://www.dunereview.com/home.htm 507032[/snapback] Thanks alot. I'm not really doing it for the lighting I converted my banshee to EFI and I need the power to run the ECU, fuel pump and all that good stuff. The flywheel mod seemed kinda like snake oil to me. Justintoxicated Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 (edited) I would have to disagree with the snakeoil thing. It makes a good difference on my banshee. Get the Aftermarket Flywheel and the Aftermarket stator if your serious about lighting. HID's unlike halogen requier a constant 12V and also have a high amperage draw on startup. If a halogen does not get enouh power it dims, if the HID balast does not your light willt urn off compleatly. Even with the High output Flyweel, and Aftermarket stator and the Largest Battery from Trailtech one of my HIDs will eventualy go out if I'm not moving. (I have 120 watts worth though not just 60 watts of HID) When a HID goes out you have to turn off the switch and then turn it back on, but if it went out because the battery was low you would have to do this while riding, because your battery cannot handle the draw. The high output flywheel may make a little more peak power but it keeps the power up while you are idle which is Imoprtant IMO with an HID setup. With 2 HID's your battery WILL be draining while idle (how fast determins how much junk you are running and how much output your getting form the flywheel and stator at idle) Without these mods, forget about running 4 HID's without both the flywheel and stator. msg Wallrat about his 2 MR16 HIDs with his 2 MR11 HIDs. He has trouble keeping them both on at the same time even with the high output stator and 7 amp hour battery. It would be very solid setup since with the High output flywheel and stator you are able to make about 60 watts of DC power at idle. Like Lobo said, with 2 HID's it will work without them though, as long as you are not idleing around waiting on others or stopping alot, and have a decent sized battery (I would def go with the largest you are comfortabel with) My advice to you would be to get the HID setup and try it out then determin if you need the stator and flywheel.
