fastashell Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 whats up everyone. Im from up north were its cold and wet in the winter so it seems like everything rusts up here. Anyways The last time i went rideing was about 3 months ago. went through some deep puddles and when i came home i rinsed the bike off. Now today three months later i lifted the front of the bike up and let it sit on the six pack bar behind the seat. So its in a wheelie positioin so i could work on touching up the chips under the frame. getting ready for the summer. when i lifted the banshee up a lot of water started pooring out from the frame, the water was very rusted color. there was at least a cup full of water. my question is, is my frame rotting from the inside out? has this happened to any one else? what should i do? thanks anyone that can help. 810darren Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 if you look at the underside of your frame by the back of the foot pegs there will be a hole on each side back there for water to drain.lot of times it will not all leak out also up front by where your pipe hangers are located behind there is another hole on each side.i just use an air blow off and put it to the holes and just blew it out as best as i could.but the other 2 holes are in the general area of the pipe hangers if i remember correctly.it would take years of setting before it would ever rust all the way threw you should be fine.hope this helps Quote
bansheerage Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 if you unbolt your footpegs more water should come out of those holes also. happens to me all the time and probably alot of other people on here just no one notices really. not enough water to really damage anything at all wouldnt worry about it Quote
fastashell Posted April 1, 2006 Author Report Posted April 1, 2006 thanks for the help and if any one else has some advice i wouild appreciate it. im so mad I almost want to sell it and avoid any rusting problems that may come about. Quote
NickyPap Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 This might sound crazy but I knew a kid that sprayed the inside of his handlebars of his dirtbike with that expandable foam "great stuff" until it leaked out the ends then cut the exess off. Said it cut down on the vibrations anyways maybe you can juice up the inside of your frame. I would just get it all to drain out after you wash it. Quote

Great Stuff(the spray foam) is an open cell type of foam(kinda like a sponge) and if the water gets into it, it stays trapped in it which will actually cause rot and rust faster by keeping moisture in. I know someone who used it to sound-deaden a car and it got wet over the winter(salty water) and it ate the whole car up from the inside out. Edited April 1, 2006 by pipebomb Quote
