Handyman Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Well I found out today that my raptor has bent valves due to the timing being off. The compression test came back with 0 compression because of that and the fact that the seal on the head is non existant. Since I have to tear the top half of the engine off how hard would it be to stuff a R1 engine in the frame and what modifications would I have to do to the frame and engine mounts?? Any insight would GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance. Quote

Start by measuring the engine and the frame to see what you have to cut away if anything to get it in there. As far as engine mounting, thats critical. Take your time and a buddy or two helps (I used a fork lift to hold the engine in the frame). As far as how hard it is.....it all depends. If my frame would have been a frame I bought from some one, I could have put the engine in it in 2 hours tops. Locogato got a CBR600RR engine in his Raptor frame pretty damn quick if I remember right. The frames are taller than a Banshee frame and when you don't have to cut or fab, it will go quick. Quote
racer Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 The R1 motors may be a lil larger than the 600rr Tyler used, so that may not be such an easy fit. But if the overall dimensions are comparable, and your handy with a welder and chop saw i dont think it would be hard at all. Just keep in mind how the case sits in the Deltabox and keep that same angle or it might fuck up the oiling or something. I dunno, just a thought. Quote
Handyman Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 From the research I've done and from what you guys have said it sounds like a pain in the ass. I think just replacing the valves will be the way to go. I don't want to buy a R1 motor and fscrew up the way it works if i don't have it level/straight in the frame and ruining the frame if that happens. Quote

I plan on doing another one if I can ever get this one done and get a few things figured out about the design and fab process. So yes, a top end job would be about 5000x easier than putting a completely different engine in the frame. Quote
hittintrees srh Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 how hard would it be??????? my best guess would be VERY if you decide to go ahead with it post some pics of your progress-good luck Quote
