I am running a K N filter with a pro design adaptor on a stock airbox. Some buddies told me I should use a foam filter like a Twin Air because it would be better to keep fine dust out of my motor.I ride mostly on motocross tracks. Should I get a K N lid for my airbox or should I go with the Twin Air filter?

At one time I had twin UNI foam flters.........they were a magnet for sand on the out side.........but on the inside they were absolutly clean.......thus they were so gooped with sand on the outside that I felt it wasnt breathing properly..........Major clogging............in turn I switched to K/N w/ outerwears

i've ridden in the sand and mud, never had a problem yet. K&N's all the way, let that shee breathe. :headbang: Oh yeah, don't forget the outerwear, that's where it can get ugly. :shootself:

You should be fine if you have an outerwear prefilter and clean it often. An oiled foam filter does clean the air better but the K&N flows more air.

Sand clogs up foamies really fast whereas a K&N/outerwear sheds off most of the big chunks. For dusty conditions though, I'd recommend a foam filter. K&N's are lousy filters when it comes to really fine dust. It all depends on where you ride.

last summer out trails got so dusty that i was cleaning the outter wrap on my prodesign foam filter so i swapped the outter wrap for a outer wear and the filter stayed good the rest of the season and only hadda toss the outer wear in the washing machine .... has anyone else ran a setup like that?

On long weekends I like to use nylons (you know the kind chicks wear on their legs). They're about $2 and you get 2. Just cut em around the calf area, slip them over the foam filter, and hold em in place w/ a rubber band. They'll catch most of the big stuff so at the end of everyday just swap em out for a new one.

Wicked are you saying you ran the whole season w/out cleaning your air filter???

well i ran a good 2 months of riding 3 to 4 times a week after i put a outerwear on my prodesign foam filter , it was like all the dust stayed on the outerwear . but i did toss the outerwear in the washing machine bout once a week or more if it was really dirty. lol the filter stayed really clean tho, i was really suprised.
