suzuki0702 Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 how do you know which slide goes on which side...ive done a search and came up with 2 notches goes on the left if u are on the bike...but that just doesnt fly for me cause i just doesnt run..so which is it? Quote
badbanshee01 Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 (edited) First off the cutoff of the slide should be facing the airbox. To decide which is the right or left put the slide in the carb and see if the little silver dot on the slide lines up with the peek hole on the carb. If the dot on the slide is on the opposite side of the peek hole then it is the wrong slide. I had this problem too. Edited January 29, 2006 by badbanshee01 Quote
suzuki0702 Posted January 29, 2006 Author Report Posted January 29, 2006 man i swear that mine is opposite...the s.o.b. just wont run with those right! is it bad to run em backwards.? Quote
badbanshee01 Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 When I installe the slides with the cut outs to the engine it ran like crap!! It had no power any where I put the cotout toward the airbox and it ran like a raped ape You figure out the right from the left yet? Quote
suzuki0702 Posted January 29, 2006 Author Report Posted January 29, 2006 yeah its keyed...it can only go in one way....i cant even get the effer to run with the tapered edge towards the airbox... Quote
batoutofshell Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 yeah its keyed...it can only go in one way....i cant even get the effer to run with the tapered edge towards the airbox... 466118[/snapback] they are in the wrong carbs then, switch them, bet shee runs alot better. cutout to the back are the way they need to be Quote
suzuki0702 Posted January 30, 2006 Author Report Posted January 30, 2006 they only go in one way dude..they are slotted..if i run em with the tapered edge towards the front it runs fine... but as soon as i put em in the correct way it wont start... Quote
badbanshee01 Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 could your jetting be off? because by putting the slide in the other way limits the amount of air getting to the motor wich would make you run rich so maybe you have to step up on your pilot? Quote
suzuki0702 Posted January 30, 2006 Author Report Posted January 30, 2006 thats what i was thinking but i have no idea dude..is it going to hurt me to run it like that? i guess ill contact jeff at fast tommorow...anybody else concur.... im runnin a 310 main.. stock pilot and needle 2nd down from blunt end... ???? mods in sig Quote
fastbanshee8 Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 Try turning in the airscrew on each carb 1/2 turn, and see if it will start. Quote
canyncarvr Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 (edited) Fix what you know is broke. The slides install with the taper toward the airbox, or the rear of the machine. They are 'keyed' but not on the same SIDE of each carb, so you CAN put them in backwards (like you did). Put the slides in the correct way. Whatever problems you have after that is some OTHER problem. LEAVING them that way is plain bogus. The cutaway on the slide is what gets air past the jet block when the slide is toward the bottom of the carb bore. It is responsible for off-idle response and lower throttle performance. However it runs with the slides backwards isn't NEARLY as good as it will run with the slides in the CORRECT way...and the other problem fixed. If all you do is WOT all the time..it won't matter much. Edited January 31, 2006 by canyncarvr Quote
suzuki0702 Posted January 31, 2006 Author Report Posted January 31, 2006 gotcha thanks a bunch...i got her to idle with the choke on with those slides in the right way....man it sounds completely different...later Quote
canyncarvr Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 Considering a relatively properly setup machine: If it only idles with the choke out (on) when warm, that suggests an air leak some place. Your cross-connect tube is on? Correctly? ...and the tube itself is not split or cracked or disformed (bulging) where it connects to the carbs? Replace it if you have any question about it. Don't run it at all if that cross-connect (it feeds choke enriched fuel to the RH carb) has a problem. You WILL end up with a ported RH piston..a cute little hole right at the top of the crown! That's not a good thing. Quote
suzuki0702 Posted February 1, 2006 Author Report Posted February 1, 2006 no im always certain that choke tube is on...the damned thing wouldnt even start with out in on...but i just have lots of chit to deal with before i start the jetting bs...later Quote
