TrickShee259 Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 I'm looking at reworking the system in my truck and thinking about getting 2 of kicker's CompVR 10" subs. Possibly the Solobaric 10" L5s? Any one have either of these in their vehicles? how do you like them and don't forget to tell what amp they're powered by!!! Quote

Your gonna need alot of space under the back seat or an SUV to run the solarbaric's though... for them to work right you need a big box and a bigger amp.... Mike Quote
ellison445 Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 (edited) My Old setup was kicker, I had 2 12' L7's with On rockforad Foasgate bd1000 on each. I had both amps dropped to 2 ohm and it hit pretty hard. Then I switched to 3 alphasonik 15", Since then I have broken 2 back windows in my Expedition Here is my setup. Banshee17Racing Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 I've got 2 10" compVR's in my reg. cab S-10. They sound pretty good, and cheap, too. I would get Solarbarics if you can fit 'em. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 I have a pair of Kicker CompVR12's in my prelude, powered by a Phoenix Gold Octane 8.0.1 amp, running roughly 800 watts to them. They hit really hard and have great sound quality, but are very power hungry subs (400W continuous/600W peak). I've had them for years now and they keep on taking the beating I give them, I listen to a very wide variety of music and they seem to sound good with no matter what I play through them. Here's my setup I put together last year...I wasn't going for anything elaborate, just something that was clean looking and sounded good You can't see the amp that powers the subs, it's on the other side of the box Quote

My boston acoustic 10's are power hogs to.. something like 450rms a piece... That and some infity kappa componets and my truck gets down pretty good ... Mike Quote
Robert Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 I have 2 12" L7's on a Orion 225 and they hit hard and low Quote
TrickShee259 Posted January 20, 2006 Author Report Posted January 20, 2006 Yea for what i'm doing i don't have tht much room. I have a extended cab f250 and the back seat seatback is actually the box so the people in back are leaning on my box. Right now i have 3 fosgate 10s (bottom of the line 8 ohm pieces of crap) and i need more. I just picked up a fosgate power 1000bd for 200 bucks and i'm leaning towards getting 2 10" CompVRs. the dual 2 ohm coils will let me wire each at 4 ohm and then pairing the two subs so i'd be running em into 2 ohms into the amp. over 500 watts apeice what do you think. reccommended sealed box volume on em is about 0.8-3 cubic feet apeice and i can only mange about 1 cube each, but i think it'll still pound they'll have plenty of power Quote

dawarriorman Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 (edited) Ive never been a huge fan of kicker, especially those square subs. You want some good subs either get JL, or RE. Edited January 20, 2006 by dawarriorman Quote
txblueshee Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 Now don't let how it looks deceive you, those subs are each sitting in 1.15 cubic feet of airspace. It doesn't stretch the whole width of the trunk. The box itself is fairly small considering. Kappa components are awesome speakers, I use to run those before I got my quarts. Solobarics are nice, but I think they're pretty much good for SPL and nothing else. Their whole design was based on cramming a bunch of speakers in a small space to gain as much SPL as possible for competition. If you want something that has great sound along with good bass, I'd go a different route....but that's strictly my opinion. I really like the compVR subs. They have a solid design, good quality sound, and can handle pretty low frequencies without much distortion. I've run JL subs, fosgates, kicker, pyle, pioneer, and have had the kickers longer than any of the others. They're built to last! 462274[/snapback] I noticed that after I posted up... I have a kenwood mono channel sub amp.. it's only like 1x1 but 1000watts .. The only time I overheated it was cranking it up for a 5 hours straight... I can get some pics of my setup later.. gotta probox that came with 2'' risers so it sits flush and clean under my back seat... theres literally no way you can tell I have a system by looking into my truck.... I'd reccomend the boston acoustic's to anybody though... they'll keep up with fear factory's double bass and will only bottom out on sound test cd's....... I think JL is overpriced for there decent quality stuff... lower line subs are paper weights... Mike Quote
RNBRAD Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 I've used kicker subs for 17yrs and competed with them for 9, with a few other brands for short periods along the way. Unfortunatly kickers best sq subs have come and gone. Their best SQ sub was the XPL (marketed wrong) with their round solo's a close second (might find some used). The CompVr's are their best speaker they currently have for sq and really provide a good bump. They are really an excellent all around performer. Image Dynamics (IDQ's) make's a good sounding sub at afforbable pricing as well. Quote
