yesterday was my shake down run on my new motor. It is a 4mm long rod with weisco 795's a vito's plate , it's been ported (wicked lookin jugs done here in canada) but the port heights have not been altered. Stock head no milling.CPI inframes,v-force3's ,+4* keyway,34mm pj's, no air box (made my own filter to carb manifold to keep the filter away from the pipes, spacerplate issues!). The carbs are box stock still, prejetted from alba(sudco).CEG needles in the middle,152 mains, 45 clicks out on the idle adjust (7.5 turns i think), 1.5 out on the air screw with...78!?!?! pilots. My first thought was what the hell is the 2nd richest pilot jet doin in here? I figured this would get me by just for seating the rings. But when i kicked it over...it idled! i was shocked and suprised cause from the info i've read here on HQ this shouldn't be so easy! I put a heat cycle through it and was mighty impressed! 2nd cycle the same, but the 3rd run ended with a sputter just above idle.It would rev with the clutch in but not under load.It sounded like it ran out of gas, nope.Plugs looked sweet too.BUT it was maybe 1 degree above freezing when i tryed this,i'm thinking maybe the first to rides were not long enough to get it Hot. Then that fat pilot jet reared it's ugly head? What do you guys think? Am i headed in the right direction?

my pjs like a dek needle, ran like crap with teh ceg needle

60 pilot, dek and like 150 mains should get you close imo depending on elevation adn your super cold temps.

best of luck

mine liked 8 turns out on the idle roughly if i remember right.

my elevation is about 200ft max usually less than 100 probably. In vancouver just north of seatlle it's only goin to see a max of 600-700? whatever the popular spots in oregon are at.i'm also using a motion pro cr twist throttle,it doesn't seem to open the slides 100% of the way,is this a problem that is to be fixxed with the cable or the handle bar tube? the motion pro site was not very informative. Because of this i won't be able to jet my new set up properly,I have a feelin i'll be waitin for parts again :shrugani:

I agree, I couldn't get my 34's to run very well w/ the "C" needles. I went to a DEK and have a lot better low end w/ these. My shee likes the 58 pilots, needle in the 4th clip, and 175 mains.

Mine are too, they claim, they are supposed to and that it doesn't affect it.....The PJ carbs are designed for better low throttle response, so they keep the velocity going through the carb for the better response....where as the PWK carbs are more efficient at wot.....I've tried both, but never had the chance to try both back to back for comparison. Others claim no real difference between the 34PJ and 35 PWK.......I adjusted my idle w/ my cables before I adjusted the idle knob, so my slides go as high as possible.....

I thought that in order for the mains to operate properly the needle has to be withdrawn fully from the main jet? i guess it's pretty dam close.

The needle is never in the main jet. Its in the tube going down to the main. When you are at full throttle, there is very little needle remaining in the tube...the tube is about 3/16" diameter (guessing). You see it when you put the needle in it when putting the slides back in...The amount of space around the needle at wot is way larger than the largest main jet made.....

BTW, I'm running a thumb throttle w/ stock cables. Make sure you adjust all the slack out of the thumb throttle as well.

I thought my stockers had the bottom of the needle visible at wot, just trying to compare apples to oranges i guess. And it's been 2 months since I removed the stock carbs. It must be a memory that I'm tryin to suppress ;)

The needles always stay in the orifice a little. If not, they would go to the side and the slides wouldn't be able to go back down, causing your motor to stick wide open.....your needles have some play and can move side to side quite a bit, so they must remain in the hole a little even when your needles are on the 5th clip...
