peterlocal22 Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 hey everyone I just bought a 1998 banshee. The prev. owner didnt have a skid plate on the bottem of frame and there were some scrape marks on the frame from rocks or whatever. Over the years the scrapes which went down to bare metal have turned to rust. This is killing me I like every thing perfect. I hate rust. Any advice on removeing it and fixing the problem so it doesnt come back? Any advice would be great, thanks Quote
sand rocket Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 strip and paint or powder coat the frame and get a full skid plate Quote
peterlocal22 Posted November 18, 2005 Author Report Posted November 18, 2005 thanks for the reply. Can i strip the paint to the metal frame on just a certain section of the frame or do i have to do the whole frame. The rust spot is about 5 inch long 1 inch wide. also will i hurt the metal of the frame if i do this? Quote
dalegoldston Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 you need to totally strip down to the frame and send it out to be sand blasted and powder coated. That is for the best results. The quick fix turn it on its end wire brush the rust and clean with alcohol, get some primer and a can of paint to best match your frame. Quote
Bansh88 Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Are you guys fuggin high? Spray some rustoleum that remotely matches the frame color and your done! The scratches will return. eventually get down to the metal. Spray it again. Quote
dogboystoy Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Dude, sand paper, wire brush, whatever. Scotch brite will work great too. Best match is silver rustoleum hammered look paint. Looks great and holds up fairly well to standard abuse. Quote
