This may sound like a dumb question but i was wondering whats the difference between a long rod crank and a stroker? i wanted to get one of them but it seems like the strokers cost a lot more and was wondering if you pay more for the same thing?

A long rod crank doesn't do anything for performance. The rods are simply longer to reduce the angles/side forces present. This makes for a more reliable engine. You compensate for the longer rods by either running 795 series pistons or blaster pistons.

On a stroker the rod is moved further away from center on the crank. This gives you a longer stroke and more power. You have to accomodate for the added stroke by having the stock head milled, running a spacer plate or extra gaskets, or running stroker domes if using an aftermarket head.

You can buy longrod/stock stroke, longrod + stroker, or shortrod + stroker.

Below are 2 threads just like this one. I'll just add one more thing, long rods on a stock stroke change the piston speed at different durrations of the stroke, piston speed is slower at TDC = top dead center and TDC+180 deg, this increases dewll time, and is faster in the middle of the stroke so port timing is different than stock stroke with stock rods and porting specifically for long rods and stock stroke would be needed to optimise this engine configuration.
